I have had the Nikon Coolpix S1 for less than a year and recently noticed that the screen has gone completely blank. I can still see the LCD monitor and picture archive. I have reset all my settings but to no avail.

Furthermore, there is a little red blinking box with a hand on the top right corner of the screen. What does this mean???

The blinking hand means you are in a low-light situation with the flash turned off and you are likely to end up with a blurry picture.

If you can view your pictures but can't use the LCD as a viewfinder, you probably have inadvertently turned it off.
Go to the Setup menu.
Choose "Monitor Settings."
Choose "Photo Info."
Choose either "Show Info" or "Hide Info," but not "Monitor Off."

This is not really intuitive, but this is how to turn the monitor on.

Mmm particularly much less high priced for a superzoom isn't it I question the place they decrease corners, the components used? the way they placed it mutually? Is the sensor in it previous technologies? seem it relatively is a fantastically good digicam yet GE does not has the main suitable call. See what makes a kind sturdy? a sturdy customer help and a sturdy restoration service if issues spoil. that's what makes some manufacturers relatively vast you notice.. your lens broke nicely for a small cost and we are speaking a pair of relative small cost Nikon or Canon are waiting to repair it. yet no longer each and every kind has this kind of customer help setup. GE is a hollow kind, a kind call they are in a position to apply to sell nicely each and every thing. fantastically uncomplicated purchase up some much less high priced stuff in china and placed your much less high priced *** kind on it. it is an outstanding digicam even with the undeniable fact that it is lots from professional, will lack administration and .. nicely.. its much less high priced. I particularly have a Canon a series...
