I've always had trouble sleeping and at times it can start to affect my life. I don't really want to go to the doctor and start taking sleeping pills but I was wondering what kinds of side effects people experience (besides the ones listed) with different sleeping pills... Specifically, do they mess up your metabolism because they help you sleep?

serious addiction. i used to take some serious hypnotics, sleeping pills, called Tuinal #3. they aren't made anymore because they were so widely abused. the sleeping pills on the market today are tame compared to them. I'm lucky I lived through it. but any sleeping pill is gonna be addictive. I have an almost pathological dread of not being able to get enough sleep. it affects everything I do, my whole life is centered around it so I know how you feel. Good Luck.

I work the night shift and from time to time I have to take sleeping medication. There are a lot of different ones on the market that is not habit forming as long as you take as directed. Lunesta, Ambien are by prescription. just to name a few. Tylenol pm help some people. The only side effects that I know of if you take them to late at night you will be sleepy. Ambien does give an amnesia effect . What Happen to me Is after I would take one someone would call and I would talk to them on the phone and not remember it at all. Best thing is to check with your doctor and see what would work best for you.

No it will not mess up your appetite at all. Most sleeping pills are a hypnotic. the scariest part of taking them is that you may not remember anything between the time of taking it until you fell asleep. Nothing scary just follow the doctors directions. you should try tylenol PM it works really well or even benedryl but make sure you drink alot of water with them. good luck

The only troubling side effect I have had with Ambien is that sometimes I can't remember if I dreamed something or if it really happened. No, they didn't mess up my metabolism. Actually not getting enough sleep screws around with your appetite.

Ambien can make you do anything from sleepeating, to sleepdriving, to sleepf**king. You can hallucinate, hear things and just generally go off the deep end. Also after time Ambien becomes less effective. Because you can sleepeat you could very well gain weight from taking the pill. Though just taking it will not make you gain weight.

If you can avoid the use of sleeping pills, the better off you'll be.
