What's authentic?
If someone has a spiritual experience, then it's authentic, no matter the source.
Drugs, Fasting, Sleep Deprivation, Sensory Deprivation, Physical Limit Pushing, Flagellation, combinations of all of these have been used for thousands of years to push the mind into an altered state of conciousness, which results in something.
What the person brings back is varied, and depends more on what the person is trying to acheive. Example, The story of Odin, and how he found the Runes is a story of a Shaman going on a dreamquest...

This is a tough question. Reality is an authentic spiritual experience, so it's already present, just altered. It's revelations are very potent and helpful, though, for seeing past the illusion of it all. Afterwards, you realize that many things you once thought were important are actually quite insignificant in the big picture, and you also realize you are a slave to your senses and the subjective experience. Personally I think everyone should do it at least once in life.

Marijuana or cannabis definitly brings on experiences by helping one feel unity, and also by easing the troubles of the mundane world away.
I have heard from Native Americans that peyote helps bring on visions.

I dabbled in Shamanism for a while. We smoked a plant called Salvia Divinorum. My experiences were beyond bizarre. I visted other planes of existence. I met alien life forms. I even walked through a forest full of strange vegetation. But I'm sure it was all just Hallucinations.

Being spiritual is not about being tripped out. A clear sound mind spent meditating on God's word in nature is a much more spiritual experience.

While Peyote is a traditional aid to Shamanism, most psychics, mediums and other spiritualists (even modern Shamans) would agree that they can hamper experiences.

Native americans used hallucinogens in ritualistic settings. The combination of culture, substance and ritual combined to bring about these experiences.
Sitting at a table, listening to Enya and smoking pot will not result in the same sort of thing.

Mind altering drugs do not reveal truth at all. They just plunge thought into a deeper delusion.

"natural" and "drugs" do not belong in the same sentence. A drug, by definition, is something not naturally found in the body.
If you need drugs to help you communicate with God, then I doubt you're actually hearing from God.

I played Black Sabbath backwards and saw God. A lot of people say it was the hundred acid trips I took.
