If you are asking what you should look for when purchasing these products, then I can only help you out with a few of your items.

When buying root crops/vegetables: When buying potatoes--buy ones that do not have eyes/shoots already blooming. Smell them, look for bad places, they should be firm not squishy at all.

Other vegetables, look for brightness/crispness in color. Smell, if it smells bad or odd--don't purchase. If you are buying your vegetables by the pound, do not let them charge you for waste. Demand that useless leaves and rotten sections be removed before being weighed.

With green vegetables such as celery, brussel sprouts, lettuce, etc.---REMEMBER the darker the color of green the more bitter the vegetable will be.

Always make sure the vegetables/fruits are packages in breathable containers, something wrapped in cellophane with no air holes will rot quicker. Only wash vegetables before use. If you wash and then store in the refrigerator, that promotes rot.

Buying fresh eggs; buy an egg comparable to the size you need. Check that none are broken, and smell for rank or funny scent. If they smell funny--Do Not Buy.

When purchasing fruit, always smell the fruit. It should smell like the fruit should taste. If it doesn't, then it is not in season, or lacks flavor--Do not buy.

Buying rice--brown is healthier than the bleached white.
