Alright, so tomorrow I am adopting a beagle from the local animal shelter. She was found as a stray, and I went to see her today, and she is the SWEETEST thing ever. She even crawled up into my lap when we were playing. So I need to do some shopping so that I am ready for her when she's able to come home. The things I know I need to get for sure are:

Toys, leash, collar, food/water bowl, bed (any special kinds?)

Those are the only things for sure that I know I need,

so I guess what my question is out of the things listed, what else do I need? And are there any special kinds of the stuff I know I need that I should get?

Does anyone know anything special on beagles? I think I have heard that they like to talk....? I am not entirely sure

So any help you guys have to offer would be GREATLY appreciated because I am honestly at a loss of what else I need for her haha

Thanks!!

Congratulations! Sounds like a lucky little dog to have such an interested and concerned parent. Your list is perfect, right on. Go ahead and get some dog shampoo - you will probably want to bathe her in the first couple of days (don't do it right away - it might freak her out). One thing you should ask the shelter is what kind of food the pup is eating and be sure to buy that kind in the beginning. A sudden change in food will cause diarrea (sp?). You can slowly introduce other types of foods later if you prefer a different kind. You might want to pick up a few dog treats, too. I would give her a treat each time she goes to the bathroom outside (take her out the same door each time - have her do her business in the same place too, at least in the beginning so she is clear where she should or shouldn't go). Any way you work it, you will figure it out along the way. The most important thing she needs on your list will be your love - everything else is just gravy. Congrats again!

My dog came from a shelter too and I went though 4 beds before HE liked one. There are these beds that have like a little space thay can hide in like a canopy over them, I guess they feel safe in it, you'll also need a shampoo, find out if she has sensitive skin or any skin conditions, oatmeal shampoos work great for that, just read lable and the less suds the better! Treats are big if your gonna be training her, again find out if she has any allergies or if there are any that she perfers. Is she potty trained? Puppy pads are great and if you use them I would suggest to get a puppy pad frame (Trust me on that one!) Don't forget a tag for her collar!!! So what's her name gonna be? There are so many more things that you could get, but I thik those are tha basics, trust me when your at the store you'll get so many more ideas! Well I wish you the best of luck with oyur new baby, e-mail me and let me know hoe it goes! Luv Rorie!

Go to walmart or a pet store and make sure that you get her a name tag. And as far as the bed goes, depending on how much you want to spend and where all you can go to to get it. My mom owns a pet shop and she can get me a memory foam bed for my dog. Those are great for older dogs but I think that they are the best bed that you can get a dog. I paid 30 for an x-large. Beagles do love to talk. But I will say this...a lot of people find that their bark (or howls) are quite anoying. I grew up out in the country next door to a man that had at least 20 because he was a hunter. I personally think that they are cute. lol. And as far as getting her things also it depends on how you want to treat her and spoil her. You will need treats and food. And depending also you may need a poo shovel or whatever they are called. Something to chew on like raw hides. All dogs love them. And every once in a while (about 2 times a week) give her a Greenie. Found in most pet stores. Just be sure to get the one that is her size. They are great for dogs. Glad to see that their are people out there that rescue dogs from those places. Good job and Good luck!!!

I recommend checking out the Internet and looking up information on Beagles. They can bark a lot. Also, they have their nose to the ground a lot (because they're hunting dogs), and they will keep eating till they throw up and will eat more if you let them. (They don't have that switch in their heads to tell them they're full) The ones I have seen have all been very sweet and good tempered.
If I were you, I'd go check out your local Petsmart and have them help you with what you'll need. Might also be good to get the dog into a positive training class. Training helps the both of you bond better.

You may want to get a cage, especially if the dog is not housebroken, but im pretty sure he is since he is coming from a shelter; however, it is always nice to have a cage. What you listed pretty much covers it all. Just make sure that you treat your puppy very good and care for him like he is your kid (cause he is in a sense) and remember that he will need time to warm up to you, especially since he came from a shelter.

Get a crate a little larger than the dog (helps with housebreaking), they sell beds (mats) that go inside the crates. When you buy toys get a Kong toy. Buy a good quality dog food my vet put my pup on Pro Plan for Puppies. Make sure you get your dog a vet check and shots and if she is not spayed get her spayed as soon as she is old enough. She will have a longer healthier life if you do.

My dogs loves Waggin' practice Yam good chicken jerky and yam treats- also their chicken and duck jerky strips- safer than accepted rawhide, which he will swallow entire. i'm getting' em at WalMart. How about a Kong that you'll be able to stuff with treats for him to dig out? additionally they make Air dogs toys, a line of squeaky tennis balls in all sorts and sizes that are astounding and sturdy.

I'm no beagle expert but you forgot about nail clippers, brush, shampoo, ID tag, food (dry is always my favorite to give to a dog), treats, to reward her when she good especially.

Congradulations on saving a sweet little girl from maybe being put to sleep for no other reason except that they wouldn't have had room for her anymore and her welcome there was worn out, and giving her a wonderful and loving forever home =))

All the things listed are really good to add to your list, but a couple of other things might to be to find a good doggie day care to watch the dog on those times you are away (you might need to have your dog temperament tested which won't take that long), and the really important thing is to get yourself and your new dog enrolled in a good obedience class. I was raised with a dog near us all my life but there was so many new things I learned attending the obedience class. On top of that, it will allow your dog to get to socialize with other dogs.

If she isn't house broken, get some training pads. Beagles are very vocal. Thank you for adopting her, you are a lifesaver. Kudos.
