Peroxide bleaches the teeth. Lasts for quite some time but you may experience sensitivity to cold or hot liquids or your teeth may hurt when you breathe cold air... if this happens, use the strips only every few days. You'll get the same results it will just take a bit longer and you won't have to suffer!
Be careful tho, you can damage gum tissue if you get the product on your gums too often for too long.

Strips are better than the brush on stuff that used to be available, there used to be reported cases of increased cases of mouth cancer because of the chemicals used in the whitening process, but since the brush-on kind has gone away, I haven't heard or read anything negative about them. But like everyone else has said, there can be sensitivity in both teeth and gums, so be careful and slow down if it becomes a problem for you.

crest white strips in the blue container work very well. just as well as professional whitenning, (i had both) after two strips you will definitely see a difference. i recommend it highly. i don't think there's much side effects. if you leave it on more the hour or so recommended, your teeth may feel a little tingly fromthe peroxide but it eventually goes away.

The peroxide in the strips bleaches your teeth the way it may lighten you hair.
Negative effects may be teeth sensitivity not always though
