My dog is a carin terrier and when we have a fire in our fire place she layes against the frie place (she really layes against the fire place). and then she starts panting but still layes there, we pick her up and move her away but then she goes right back to the fire. it's weird, it's not cold in our house ever.

In my last apartment, I had radiator heat -- you know the type of radiator with the old fashioned sections and the little scrolls? my skinny cat could just fit in the space, she loved to sit between the radiator and the wall. It was so hot I couldn't touch it. I couldn't get her out of there!!

I loved the description of dragging the dog away and she goes back.

Dogs love the heat! Its like lying out in the yard in the full sun on a hot summer day, they love it!

Maybe she likes to be warm. Put water near there so she can have it. Maybe it relaxes her. So she wont pant...put some water near her laying area. She will like it. But dont let her get close to the fire!

They are probably cold even if your house isn't cold. Maybe she has a cold or something and has the shivers and you are always cold when you have the shivers, even if you are in the hottest oven!

That dog has been influenced by Norman Rockwell paintings.

i know why because my dog goes to my steem and lays there but he gets burned your dog sits and stays next to the fireplace because dogs don't like being hot or cold they like to be warm so she stays there so her body heat will be at the right tempeture.

some dogs just like to be hot. i have a basenji that sits on my lap until the furnace kicks on, then she runs over to the register and sit there until it shuts off, then she jumps back on my lap. she's so hot she almost burns me.
