At school I can spend a whole hour sitting in a desk for the whole period. Some days I have calf pain where it just throbs and throbs and I have no idea why. When i get up and walk on it, it feels fine! But I don't know why it does this. Does anybody know of a reason or what is wrong with my throbbing legs? It only happens while sitting for a long periods of time.

you are cutting of venous return, This can lead to blood pooling and clots, which when released can become a thrombus and possibly get lodged in the lungs or brain causing all sorts of nasty problems. It is prevelent in women on birth control, people who sit for long periods in cramped spots like airplanes, people who smoke to name a few. Standing up retsores circulation. Pain is your bodies way of saying somethings up... move please. This should be checked out by your doctor, but try shifting positions, moving around your legs, tightening and relaxing the calf muscles. Don't sit on your legs and watch where the pressure points are and try and avoid letting the desk/seat push up against the same spot all the time.

When we sit for long periods of time we put pressure on the blood vessels in our legs. Now, a way to reduce this pain. You might try gently pulling your toes up toward you and then relaxing them, on a regular basis. If you're able, standing regularly will help to take the pressure off those blood vessels. So, I guess , excercise is the best practice.

Do you or your family have any history of blood clots? This is usually a sign of one. You probably are having a problem with the circulation or the blood vessels are being impinged (pinched). This can lead to blood clots. Also, if you have diabetes this is a common symptom. It is called neuropathy. Get it checked by a doctor to know for sure

It sounds like the sitting is cutting off the blood circulation to your legs. You need a more comfortable chair or just get up and move around more often.

circulation problem, how old are you. This can lead to a heart attack, better have it checked. You may have a blood clot which can interfere with blood flow to the heart and brain. The femoral artery is a major artery and if blocked can cause serious problems even death.
