Gloves...?

So maybe I'm missing something completely obvious here, but does anybody know this supposed "inside running joke" about buying gloves in "sets of three"? The guys on my team find it hysterical (and completely out of the question to explain it to me).. that's why I'm a little nervous about asking. Can anybody explain this to me?

Condom's are sold in three packs and are called gloves or love gloves.In like convent stores or such three packs I mean.
