—There is no good reason why immigration should be absolutely prohibited. On the other hand, the question that the careful restriction of immigration is imperative. Clearly, it is our duty to accept only such immigrants as show promise of becoming capable and efficient American citizens. It is also clearly our duty to accept even this type of immigrant only in such numbers as we can conveniently assimilate. We must not be selfish with America, but we should not be misled by the statement that anyone in has a “right” to make his home in this country. Those who come to this country are personally benefited, no doubt, but unrestricted immigration may lower the tone of American life and permanently injure our social and political institutions. America is for the present generation, but is also for posterity. The millions of unborn have as much right to be considered as have the millions now clamoring at our gates. In the earlier part of our national history free land was abundant .

Immigration should be outlawed,
in England, you may remember in July some Immigrants blew up a bus and a tube station in London,
Do you know how they did this?
Becaused they came over to this country and caused terror after we had let them in. Then instead of shipping them back we let them stay, because they say they may be tourtered if they go back- but they can blow up busses and trains here????
I also saw on the news page on AOL an article that started like this "An English Al-Quida terrorist..." how can you have someone that is English that works for a middle east terrorist organisation????? It's stupid get them out, another incident, I was walking through Leicster and just out of interest I counted the amount of white faces - 4 - all day, in my opinion this is wrong, if English people are the ethnic minority in a huge city like Leicster something has happened that shouldn't have.

Immigration laws have got to changed and or be inforced. Being able to make it across the border before you go into labor, should not make you an instant citizen. I think that anyone should have the chance to make America thier home, but only if they do it legally and only if they have the means to support themselves once they've gotten here. If you want to find out where to get free stuff in the city I live in, all you have to do is follow one of the thousands of young Mexican girls pushing a stroller.

well, we know that the immigrants coming into the USA are probably 80-90% individuals seeking to have opportunities to succeed that they do not have in their own countries and to make a better life for their families. the problem comes in a couple of ways-unchecked immigration provides for threats in forms of terrorists and criminals to enter the country. in this sense, i find it silly that, for example, a norwegian musician who has a police record as a teenager cannot come over and legally do concerts for a four day tour, but that thousands of people with unknown histories can flow into the country everyday with no time limits on their stays. furthermore, hiring illegal immigrants creates a tilted competition in employment matters-contractors who hire legal labor at minimum wage cannot compete with contractors who hire illegal immigrants. legal citizens and immigrants cannot compete on certain jobs because of minimum wage and benefit requirements. an american company using legal labor cannot compete with a company that hires illegal immigrants on costs of goods. i also think that giving illegal immigrants privileges and benefits that the natives and legal immigrants are not given is outrageous. why should an illegal family get money from a system, such as welfare, where they have not contributed? i do not think being against illegal immigration is racist because there are valid reasons and not just the ones i cited. instead of protesting over not being accepted by americans and legal immigrants, perhaps the outrage should be focused upon that they make a fraction of what legal citizens earn. as for "nation of immigrants"-that applies to every nation pretty much. it is silly to even mention that argument because no nation as of yet can truly claim to being one in which all of its people did not migrate or immigrate from some other place.

Haven't you noticed how the quality of life in this country has changed in the last 10 or so years? The whole fabric of what was America is undergoing a radical overhaul. To be honest, I am sick and tired of going into public buildings where there are back-up signs in Spanish. We speak English and, if they won't respect us enough to learn it, why should we allow what was our America to be lost!!!!!!

if you want to come to america have enough respect for our nation to come legally. if you enter legally, and work hard we will except you because you've shown us respect and that you want to work for a better american future.
If you enter illegally you show that your only in america for yourself and your family, and the you dont care about the rest of the country. people who do that dont deserve anything and i refuse to give them anything.
