i could spend like 2000 dollars on the motor and trans to make a competent drag truck out of a 64 f-100. i have a 302 motor i would like to build to race with. i might be able to spend a little more but not much. i would like to run 12's or so. the motor is a 87 302 roller motor and a 78 C4 trans behind if with a 9" ford rearend with 3.55 gears

if your going to sanction race get the rules and regs first then modify. if for street, build up drive train then motor. nothing worst than having the motor with a busted drive train. the C4 tran is okay but doesn't like that sort of punishment if it is especially stock. what is the altitude where you live will have alot to say as what your ET's will end at.

Making a "drag truck" out of a 64 f100? First, be sure yourbody bushings are good because those old trucks twist easily under torque. The origional brakes would have been for the origional 200hp motor, upgrade this also. Traction will be difficult, use traction bars 'cus spring wrap was horrible on these. Good luck, tho, cuz those are gorgeous old trucks!

Oh, on best hp from small block, save your $$ for a while and get the 347 stroker kit from Ford. Those kick @ss!

Usually nitrous is the best bang for the buck, headers, new intake and carb. You'll also have to upgrade the suspension.
The old saying is, "Speed costs money, how fast do you want to go?" Check with the racing sanction that you are planning to run under and get a set of the rules for the class that you want ot run.

Good luck, be safe, keep the shiny side up

sounds like a pretty bulletproof drivetrain. the only thing that could make it stronger would be a chevy engine and transmission...nothing beats those ford 9" rear ends though.
