Hair dye is a chemical process and is therefore somewhat damaging. How damaging it will be though depends on the hair texture of the person coloring their hair. If you have thinner, drier hair then it will be more easily damaged from any chemical or heat styling process than a person with thicker hair. With either hair type though coloring hair isn't terribly damaging. (look at the many women that do it and still have nice hair) Since I'm guessing you've never colored your hair before, I would recommend going with a nonpermanent haircolor first. (less damage and it will fade if you don't like it) I would recommend Clairol Natural Instincts. It's a level 2 color and has many pretty shades to choose from. If you're skintone is light like that of your avatar, then there are many shades that would look good on you. I would stick with something on the natural side though. You could dye your hair a warm medium brown or an auburn and both would look very good. Remember that after coloring your hair you should use a shampoo/conditioner specifically for colored hair as to help keep the color from fading. Hope that helps!

Dying your hair darker is a lot healthier than lightening it, especially if you use a low-ammonia or ammonia-free product. If your hair right now is light/medium brown and you want to retain the health, go for a medium auburn brown. The warm red tones will go well with your warm skin tone. I suggest that you start with a non-permanent color like Clairol's Natural Instincts. At their website you can select your current hair color and the look you want to achieve (warmer, cooler, more red, etc.) They will make a color suggestion based on what you give them.

You could try red tones. Dying your hair darker won't damage it - some dyes will actually plump up the cuticles and condition your hair. Stay away from permanent dyes though. I actually think you would look good with coppery or golden/caramel highlights. They won't ruin your hair too much, and will lift your look more than going darker. That is, if you really do have a warm skin tone. My skin tone looks warmish, but I actually suit ash tone much better. It's because I have a bit of a tan. I also have light brown hair and grey-green eyes, and I get blonde highlights, which suits me really well.

If you go to a professional they will use what's best on your hair. Aveda color is the best, it's all natural and derived from plants. Bleaching your hair is going to be worse on your hair, because you're stripping color out of your hair and when you dye it you're depositing color into it. Bleaching will make your hair feel more dry also. But if you use a good conditioner everyday along with a protectant it will be fine either way. If I were you I'd try putting some Carmel highlights or even a bright red mixed with blonde for winter. Just remember darker/warmer for winter and lighter brighter tones for summer! Good Luck! :o)

My hair is in great condition - my salon uses top products. If I do it at home I use things from Sally Beauty and it still looks great. Don't forget to condition regularly. The products I have used and like include Tigi Catwalk Oatmeal & Honey Shampoo & Conditioner. I also love Pave's shampoo *but not the conditioner it's too heavy.* I like the Pave's Red Carpet Styling Mousse too (use a tiny amout). If I want a little extra shine I use Tigi Camera Ready Shine Spray (very sparingly) - but I really don't need it bc it's already shiny.
I have medium brunette hair with caramel highlights and also get the roots done. If you just want to spice up your hair, do golden highlights all over and get a nice layered cut which adds to dimension. Ask the colorist what to do about touch-ups.

yes it does harm your hair, I am 29 and I have been dying my hair since I was 17 yrs old. I was a white blonde, then after dying it a golden blonde for the first time ever, my hair has always grown in darker. I am a dirty blonde now and I have not dyed my hair in almost 1 yr, it comes in a dark dirty blonde. And alot of my friends and cousins have dyed their hair too, theirs grows in darker now too. Hope it helped you. If you do dye your hair, use the ones that have no amonia, there are better on your hair.

Yes, dye is harsh on your hair... even the ones that claim to be gentle or wash out after 6 weeks.

hair dye doesn't harm your hair, bleaching it does. and you have a lighter brown so you might have to bleach it to get a good color.
i suggest going to a hair salon if you're worried
