You can offer food and water immediately following birth, but she may refuse it. Most animals eat the placenta after birth for the protein and will need little else. The puppies (kittens?) will not need to see the vet immediately. You can nurse the ones that seem to be having feeding problems with a bottle after the first day. Other than that, it is best to leave them to their mother's care. The best thing you can do is give her a dark, comfortable, quiet spot to rest and nurse her newborns. Give her as much space as possible and refrain from taking the babies out or handling them too much. In a day or two, she will emerge for food on her own, though she will spend a lot of time resting and nursing in her corner with her babies for the first week or so.

Leave her and her kittens alone. Only take her to the vet if there is an obvious medical problem- the trauma of a car trip right after giving birth could cause her to loose her milk. Feed her what you normally give her, just make sure it's easily accessible. Do not put the water dish near the kittens, they could drown.

I had a cat that literally jumped on my bed and lifted her leg to give birth..she just took control after that. We had a place all set for her and got her to bring her kitten to the box and we waited another half our and then another hour for the third kitten..there was alot of placenta but she really worked on cleaning up the last one and i did a little to help move the kitten so she could breathe. the cat went and ate when she was ready and thankfully we did not need a vet. Hopefully your cat will trust you to be with her and you can help if your cat can't get all the placenta off..my cat's birth kind of looked liked linked sausages and she ate threw each placenta and cleaned up her babies like a real OB! Good luck to you!

she knows what to do-you just watch the marvel of life. Provide food and water like normal-maybe a can of tuna or a treat to help her keep up her nutrition. i used to switch to kitten food for the extra protein while momma cat was nursing. I can't remember exactly when to take them to the vet, but not in the first week.

You give her food. She will share her food with her babies if she wants to. She will care for her own babies in her own way. Just give her regular food and water. Then, take them to the vet to make sure they aren't sick! Name them good names! Cute names!

You should definently give her food because she has to stay healthy and produce the milk for her babies. All people have different types of food that they give to their pets. I feed my dogs science diet. But some people tell me that it's not good. Whatever you do, please don't give her food from walmart or kmart. Ask a pet store about what you should give her. They should be able to help.
