ah jeez, I had HORRIBLE acne during high school and with time it only got worse.

I used to get nasty, unsightly cycsts the size of quarters on my neck and face when I was in my early 20's.

It did a lot of damage to my self esteem that will take years to reverse.

Dermatalogists couldn't help. Nothing helped.

In my mid-20's, I started using Proactiv. I read and followed the instructions very carefully, and was consistant at using it as directed.

2 months later, I almost nearly CEASED to get any more pimples, cycsts, and blackheads. An over-the-counter medecine helped far quicker and much more effeciently than proscription medecines! I still get a minor pimple around my nose (where the oil naturally builds up), but only once a month.

Now, my face is nearly totally cleared up, unfortunately I have nearly 10 years worth of ugly, irreversible acne scars.

Here's a few tips:
1. Get Proactiv RIGHT NOW and start using it AS INSTRUCTED (no straying!). In my case, it is the onl thing that has worked and much cheaper than a dermatologist.

2. Never, EVER, touch your face with your hands every again. Use only the CLEANEST hand towels to dry your face.

3. Don't OVER wash your face. Washing your face too often causes your skin to dry out and your face will eject more sebum (facial oil) into your pores. You'll actually get MORE pimples that way. Typically, wash your face 3 times a day ONLY (after waking up, sometime during the day, before going to bed). Use "apricot scrub" (it has these little sand-like things in it that really get unwanted grime off) in the morning. Use something like Neutorgena or Noxema during the afternoon wash, and use Proactive at night before you go to bed and apply the medication on your face so it can work overnight.

4. Remember: Pimples take about 3 weeks to develop. So even if you start using effective medecines, it will take AT LEAST 3 weeks before you see any results. So don't get dispirited if Proactiv doesn't work within the first month.

5. NEVER pop your pimples. Doing so:
A) Causes your face to releases huge concentrations of bacteria (in the puss and blood) that will SPREAD instantly across your face and create more pimples.
B) Popping pimples will cause acne scars that are IRREVERSIBLE and can not be healed.
C) Popping your pimples causes a psycho-somatic reaction in which the brain believes it's easier to release unwanted toxins and bacteria through your face because it gets popped and exuded quickler.

6) Try to keep your hair out of your face. Your hair is made up of dead skin cells that allow bacteria to thrive. When you shower, oil and germs from your hair are carried onto your face by the stream of the water. Alwasy wash your face LAST right before getting out of the shower to clear up any bacteria that might have settled.

7) If your face gets oily, try to pat it down with a papertowel. Don't let the oil build up. And don't wipe it with your hand, shirt, or anything that might be even remotely dirty.

Good luck!

oh...

and 8) Shave your facial hair (if you are male).
Facial hair, like normal hair, is made up of dead skin cells which are a breading ground for germs and bacteria. Facial hair also allows for microscopic openings in on your face that allow germs to infiltrate and spread beneath the surface of the skin.
Shaving your face, with shaving creme (for sensitive skin) will remove the hair AS WELL as the dead skin cells around your mouth and jaw line. This is where you'll get most of your pimples anyway. after using: THIS IS IMPORTANT: use AFTER SHAVE. When you shave, you create miniture cuts over your face that can get infected and create pimples. Using Aftershave disinfects the microscopic cuts.

Also, if you are in your early teens, shaving early and often will cause your facial hair to grow thick and handsome by the time your in your senior year (the chicks will all fall in love with you). You don't want to have the type of facial hair that was never shaved as a teenager because it grows out looking like pubic hairs instead of a manly beard.
