One thing to remember "The Marines Invade, the Army occupies" the marines are technically the presidents corps which means they can be called up by the president at any time without a declaration of war by congress. The Marines also are focused alot more on infantry while the Army is much more mechanized, although the Corps is self-sufficient. Also the Corps still trains for amphibious warfare and landings.

Depends on what you want to do. The Marines don't allow you to pick your job, they put you where needed. While everyone learns how to use their rifle, not all are infantry like they try to say. BUT, at least they all do learn how to use their rifle.
The Marines do not stay "in country" as long as the Army does..... the Army stays over 12 months (generally speaking)
With the Army, you can choose your MOS. So that's a big plus.
However, either is a good choice.
I can't stand the marine attitude (it's obvious in the replies) but they do take better care of their people since they are so much smaller. My husband has 14 yrs infantry experience and is no less of an infantryman than a Marine infantryman. In fact, he's gone to more difficult schools than the Marines. Marines end up going to Army schools at times but they can't stop talking crap about the Army. The whole rivalry between all the forces is ridiculous.
If it were my son, I would push theAir Force. There are a few hooah jobs and they also take great care of their people- best of all the forces plus no 6 month floats like w/the marines and navy.
Decide what job you want and then try to decide from there. If you want to just get out and see the world, I'd say Army since it's larger and there are many more bases thru out the world.
I highly disagree that Force Recon is the best special operations
(special forces is Army... not a slang used for special operations)
Force Recon just recently was added to SOCOM. So just in the last couple of years, was it even recognized as special operations and put under their command.
Good luck with your choice.

Must you even ask such a simple question! I was a Marine for five years, I ended my service voluntarily after I did five years of honorable service. I got out as a Sgt. The difference? The Marine Corps still has honor and respect among the ranks. Nothing against the Army at all, I have some friends that are Army but the Corps will bring your skills to a whole new level. If you chose the Corps just remember that it's not a walk in the park but it will give you confidence and courage that you never even imagined you could reach.

I was a Marine for 6 years until I got medically retired. It wasn't a picnic, but the training is great. You'll be trained as one of the finest infantrymen in the world, even if you don't enlist as a grunt. you'll be able to hit a man with a rifle at 500+ yards. Thats always a plus. The Army has many more job options, but do you really want to be a water purification specialist, or chow hall commando? Don't get me wrong. The Army is great. i've only dealt with their linguists and their groundpounders, both of which I found to be excellent and professional. But the Army is just a job, mostly, while the Marine Corps is more of a lifestyle choice. Our training is primo stuff, too. Some of it is done at Army schools. For instance I went to jump school at the Army jump school. It really comes down to personal choice. Talk to recruiters from both services. Go to their websites. www.goarmy.com www.marines.com Look them up on wikipedia. Go to the local VFW chapter and talk to some vets. Not only will you make their day, they're (we) are full of information, and won't bullsh** you like a recruiter might.
Also, mama'sbaby, the pay chart is the same for all the services. The Marines don't make more money than the Army. In fact, the Army promotes faster than the USMC, I think. Which means they make more money. And the Army usually has pretty huge enlistment bonuses, and the Marine bonuses are pretty small. In fact I didn't even get a bonus at all.

Go Army, the Marines have the image, but the Army has more/better places to get stationed, and better facilities. The saying is "Marines do more with less", and its true, they have LESS. As far as the jobs / mos's go, both services have many of the same things you can do. If you want image and the ability to say you are a Marine, then do that, but I suggest going Army, you will be glad you did.

The Marines are the first ground Troops in any hostile terrority, follow by the Army. The both basically have same mission in Wars. The Marine training is bit more tougher & longer. I was in the Army, I have admit to I do like their Dress Blues uniforms

Im Army myself and the difference is in the training. The marines are alot more harsh in their training but if you can pull it then its an honor to be a marine. Once a marine alwayse a marine.
