Yes.
My dentist warned me not to use a hard bristle.
You should brush your teeth gently even if you are using a soft bristle.

Yes they can, especially if you are an aggresive brusher. Brushing with a hard bristle toothbrush can cause notching of teeth in the area close to the gumline, as well as cause recession of the gingiva away from the teeth. You do not need to brush hard to get the job done, a soft bristle brush with slow soft circular strokes will do wonders.

Both. You can brush away the enamel on your teeth with prolonged usage of a hard-bristled toothbrush, thus exposing the dentine underneath, which is very sensitive. It can also increase gum recession, which makes your teeth more sensitive also.

Use a soft bristle tooth brush and replace with a new one every 6 months. Ask you dentist what he thinks of a hard bristle tooth brush. In reality at your 6 month professional cleaning he would give you the correct type of tooth brush and free tooth paste.

Yes,it can hurt your gum very swirly.Do not ever use hard toothbrush. No dentist ever recommends that.It can cause a gum reception ,followed by sensitivity. You are only trying to remove the bacteria, which is very soft. You don't need a hard toothbrush for that.Use a nice soft brush with a gentle touch.

no not unless your brushing them constantly and very roughly then in a year or so you'll have worn them down to nothing :) Teeth are pretty strong things (depending on how much calcium you have) you brush to get rid of excess plaque and food and thats what a toothbrush does so really your wearing down the bad things not your teeth children however need softer toothbrushes

Probably not, but it will definitely irritate your gums, to the point when they can start bleeding.
