If you ask questions on here and live with your parents- why don't you talk to them about it instead of asking a group of random people?
I am curious why kids don't talk to their parents these days? My kids talk to me about everything - as well as most of their friends and my "adopted 20-30ish friends".
Why do kids feel they can't ask parents how to get someones attention- or the "do they like me" question and most importantly- "am I pregnant'?
TIA

Brandon - Hun
I am so not oblivious to the worst side of life. I have lived it.
My father died when I was 15. I had my first pregnancy and premature death birth of my child at 17. I was divorced at 22 with a 2 year old child.
I work a full time job- a part time job and went to school full time.
SO.. PLEASE DO NOT PRESUME I DO NOT KNOW ANYTHING ANOUT SUFFERING...child..

The most common reason is they don't want their parents to judge them if they go to them with a big situation, and the parents WILL judge. So staying away from them is like staying away from an Axe blade to the throat, no need to give that executioner a reason to swing.

Another reason I've seen, is well, the parents will gossip about it and flood it to all their contacts, then those people will talk and that eventually earns a reputation.

Also, most kids feel and/or know their parents aren't with the modernized times and they would simply not understand "modern" situations.

Finally, the last reason I can think of, is they already have a good guess on their parents reaction and it's not favorable at all, a prime example is if the parents told their daughter they'd kick her out if she got pregnant.

I don't talk to my parents at all.

My mother isn't the type of mother you can go up to and talk about personal things with. In my house if your not over 16 you shouldn't be thinking about boys or have a boyfriend but where I live I have a lot of guy friends and the peer pressure of having a boyfriend is strong. My mother doesn't trust me at all so why should I trust her with my business.

She works nights so I never see her. The only time I see her is on weekends and she barely says anything all she does is sleep and cook. She doesn't like talking to her children and I'm perfectly fine with that. i have friends and sisters I can talk to and my mother knows nothing about the things I talk to my friends about. It's between me and then and she doesn't need to know.

ok, im far from under a8 but I know how it was when I was a teenager and younger.

I would have eatten nails before I would have talked to my parents, no matter the subject.

I really comes down to teenagers being afraid to talk to their parents. Afraid that their parents will hate them or be mad at them for what ever reason.

Also there are some way personal things that a teenager would rather talk to a total stranger about then their parents.

Most of the kids asking questions on here don't really want answers. They just want people to confirm that they are right and to validate their feelings--especially 13-15 year olds. They don't talk to their parents because they want to believe that their parents dont' understand and that things are much harder for them than it was for their parents. They want to think they are mature when in reality they are not. If you tell them the truth instead of what they want to hear, they leave you negative ratings or report you as abusive.

you seem very oblivious to the worse side of life.

some parents are furious to what the kid has to say, some don't care or [don't] listen (like mine), some have no idea of what its like because everyone has different experiences with every generation.

kids that I know that ask "do they like me" are so sad and depressed, they block out all reasoning and just rely on the compassion of others because the parents don't show it.

the "am i pregnant" thing should be common knowledge to why the kids don't go to the parents...

Edit:

to the OP, its not really when I meant when i said "oblivious"? don't take it literally, i used the word "seem" to be less offensive (which i guess didn't help), and yes i suppose the first few words were too generally chosen.

carman, thats very stereotypical of you. i usually give everyone a chance to prove themselves, though i guess you lack the capacity to do that, eh?

maybe they want answers from many people with different minds and different ideas than the people they have literally learned everything from and think the same way as :-))

also, did you ever think about how it would turn out if a kid went up to their dad and said "How do I get my dad to stop beating me?"

parents like you need to get off their high horses and stop acting like they're the best source of information. they don't know everything.

Kids dont wanna talk their parents about this kind of stuff, we're afarid they wont understand where we're coming from. not all parents can relate to their children, its much easier asking random people cause we know that they wont judge us
