Drunks make a lot of mistakes in their speech. Not only did he get the sentence backwards, but he also mispronounced both of the words.
By the time he woke up, his wife was drunk too, and could only remember what she was supposed to do, but not why.
Due to their drinking, their home life together is not exactly rosy. But it could be worse.
