Even if it was, how is that an insult coming from a Christian? I mean, they're a religion, too, so if Atheism being a religion makes it somehow less valid, then wouldn't the same lack of validity apply to Christianity, too?

I'm confused. o_O

Atheism is a religion only in the legal sense; we are guaranteed freedom of religion and that includes atheism. From a practical standpoint, atheism is NOT a religion.

One definition of religion is: "a set of beliefs concerning the cause, nature, and purpose of the universe, and often containing a moral code governing the conduct of human affairs"

Based on that, I would go along with the notion that Atheism *could* be considered a religion. Atheists definitely have a moral code (even if it's simply the golden rule). It doesn't necessarily have to contain a god ... just a belief system

Having said, that .... WHO CARES??? Why would Christians feel they'd gained ground by "proving" that Atheisim is a religion. Does it matter? If so, how?

Some people have nothing better to do than to argue about things that just don't matter.
Is Atheism a religion? Who really cares?
Are Atheists people with feelings and and lives? Doesn't that sound more like a question that should matter to a Christian?
BTW, I'm a Christian.

Well it is. It's organized. It has leaders. It converts. It has propaganda. It indoctrinates. It fibs and bends words to suit it's needs. For example, someone just sayd Christianity in the US dropped 9% in the 1990s while Atheism rose 5%. FACT. FACT. Ronald Reagan in the late 1980's and early 1990's MATRICULATED 12 million ROMAN CATHOLIC MEXICANS, GUATAMALANS and EL SALVADORIANS as legal residents. Now, who could Christianity DROP 9% in the 1990's when Reagan made 12 million Catholics legal citizens AND the government is about to make another 15 million residents AND those 12 millin then sponsored another 20 million relatives to come over with their new found RESIDENT status.

It would behoove atheists to read the news more often and remember what we do in this country. And MEXICANS are DEVOT catholics. They LOVE going to church on Sundays.

OK Muslims say the same thing. Islam is the fastest growing relgion in America. Well, now, what about all those MEXICAN IMMIGRANT CATHOLICS we are giving residence status to by the MILLIONS. There are only 2 million Muslims in America and we are about to give RESIDENCE STATUS to another 15 MILLION MOSTLY CATHOLIC MEXICANS.

Now, what's the FASTEST growing religion in the US? Think quick! Is it: 1). Atheism (500,000 known members), 2). Islam (2 million members) or 3. Catholicsm (75 million with another 15 million about to be made residents)!

And I, by the way, am NOT a fan of Catholics, but I see the numubers and I can't dismiss them!

They do everything they say we do.

I'm confused too. I don't see the point of a Christian trying to prove that atheism is a religion.

i've got on no account heard of this...... Atheism does not require faith. Atheism can purely be characterized with tips from the non-association with any faith. Even then, in terms of religion, and atheist does not choose faith in something. Or possible have confidence, yet no longer in atheism, a similar way one has faith in a theological thought. Atheists do no longer unavoidably ought to disclaim the existence of a god, notwithstanding they have not got faith in a manner or stick to the approaches of any particular faith. For the 2d area, why might a christian no longer evaluate christianity a 'faith'. faith and faith are no longer on a similar time unique, yet too correct yet diverse suggestions. i think of those persons are purely ridiculing peoples' suggestions (notwithstanding do no longer regard this with a similar severe analysis because of the fact something of this passage because it is not tremendously much as good because it, and is hypothetical, and generalised, and in all threat ignorant)

I don't know but I can see where people might think atheism is a religion.

In a religion, you are devoted to something, ie. Jesus, Muhammad, Allah, etc. As for atheism, are devoted to nothing but devoted to the idea that there is no such thing as a god or goddess.

Is Atheism a religion: Yes and No. Yes because it follows an idea, no because it doesn't follow a figure.

I'm a Christian, Youth Sunday School Teacher, mom and a nurse. I feel that being a Christian is by faith and so it is with any other religion. People usually believe what they were taught as a child. I hope this gives you a general idea of why people feel or believe their religion. Watch this and know God loves you too. www.mayyoubeblessedmovie.com

Be strong. If you are in the latest version of religions/ anti-religions, you will be challenged by the rest which exists longer. Every religions have had fought for acceptance and stand. So do you. If you determine yourself against them. Nothing is free. In fact you have to find out yourself that what is your stand and why. Or you just don't declare yourself anything among them.

Because so often Atheist talk alike and are as determined to prove to everyone that there is not a god as the religious people to prove to everyone there is a god.
I really have been on both sides of the fence I was a christian and I know what it is like to have atheist feel the need to try and start a fight.

As an atheist I do not start fights with Christians, I know that they find happiness in their belief and I do not feel the need to try and stop them from being happy. So often we act like different sides of the same coin.
