Let me start by Daoism.

The person written that book (Da Dao Jin, or Big Way Theory) is Lao Zi. His book contain the philosophy of life, but his famous starting verse is, Dao ke Dao, fei chang Dao, and the whole books has nothing todo with any demigod, spirit, fairy or any heavenly being.

In today's Daoism, there are many gods and goddess, demigod, spirit, fairy etc, are all away from the actual Dao.

Lao Zi, understood that there must be a force that govern the universe. That force cannot be name, and if insist, let's call him, The Way. That is the force that create the world.

In acient Chinese Imperior worship (last ritual ended in 1911, Ching Dynasty), they too believe that there is a supereme being that cannot be name, nor have any image, that created the world.

They worship this being once a year with perfect animal, wine and fruits of their labour. That duty is only done by the highest honored person, which is the King.
(Parallel to the Old testament worship).

Buddism. By a Hindu prince, to reform the society, away fom the caste system. Basically, he is teaching ways of doing good. neve claim that he is god, nor ensure a way to go heaven (navana).

Confusionism. By Kong Zi. About the same period with Lao Zi. He is also a scholar like Lao Zi, and preach about filial piety, and promote a system of scholarship. To him, a true gentlemen (Jun Zi) is one who know 6 arts. Namely, reading, writing, archery, drawing, music, riding.

By the way, Kong Zi and Lao Zi is in the warring states, and Buddah is from north east India. Near Buatan.

In fact, they are all about the same time. For warring state is before Chin Dynasty, and it is about 400 to 500 BC. Almost the same period as Buddha.

Hope u appreciate it.

The basic philosophy of buddishm that I know is that all the suffering in this life is caused by desire. The ultimate goal of a buddhist is to eradicate desire, this is how one reach Nirvana (nir=no, vana=desire), a buddhist concept of paradise.
It's the desire that drawn one back to this world. This is the process that is known as karma. A good karma, brings you more control over one's desire.
To control desire, one has to practise meditation. Through meditation one can improve one's karma.
