I have discovered that mail moves much slower in Canada than it does in the U.S. So, it depends on from where to where. If it has to move some distance within Canada, it will take about twice as long as the same distance within the U.S. Also, as others said, if it is a package, then it has to clear customs .. and that alone could take a week or two depending on how busy they are.

It depends on what city you mailed it in and the destination city in the USA and whether it was sent by Expedited or Air Mail. You said you're waiting for "stuff" which means a parcel that has to clear US Customs and they will sit on it for as long as they like.
Be patient.

Usually 4-8 business days, but it depends on how your friend sent it - and what it is. If it's a package it may take longer; if a letter, less. If it gets caught in customs...it could be a while longer.
Remember that "business days" don't include holidays or weekends, so 4-8 business days means up to 2 weeks.

11 days is not unusual, unfortunately. I know, it seems ridiculous but that has been my experience. Start worrying if you don't receive the mail within two weeks.
Good luck.
