A similar quote is "One mistake leads to another."

Another is "If you take one step away from reality, then the rest naturally follows." (Not sure of the exact wording, but it is something like that.)

For example, one small mistake in doing a math problem leads to everything being incorrect.

Another example would be that if you make a mistake in a recipe and maybe add too much flour, you realize something is wrong and you have to add more liquid, and soon the recipe is messed up.

Another example would be following a road map. If you make one wrong turn without realizing it, most likely more wrong turns will follow before you figure out your mistake.
