I'm looking to hear some funny (and even some not so funny) tales about awful things that have happened to people on first dates. It can be something scary, embarassing, humiliating....or something that made you angry with your date. It can be anything that could be put in the category under the heading of the subject of this question. Also, I'd like to know if you're still together with the person you had that first date nightmare with.
Thanks!

Crazylegs ~ My husband and I too attended the same concert (Rush) 12 years before we officially met. We also had a near-miss encounter when I signed up for the International Red Cross and he was in the Marines and we were BOTH supposed to be sent to Bosnia at the same time, same place....9 years before we met. We've both been to several of the same places at the same time prior to our "official" meeting over the years. We view it as we were destined to be together and had so many opportunities and chances of meeting over the years. But we missed something along the way....but at least we DID finally meet. The part of your story about y'all being at the same concert struck a note and I read your post aloud to my husband...we both got a kick out of that!!

Well Dee the first time that I met my fiance was a very embarrassing day. We had chatted on line and on the phone for a couple of months prior to deciding that we'd like to met each other in person. As we live 2.5 hours apart it was decided that we'd meet at a coffee shop halfway, which was more than cool. Well to start with I have to be completely honest and let you know that this was not the only lady I was chatting up on line and I was not the only male that she was either. I had already arranged to meet another woman the day before and dam it scared the hell out of me as she was a real kook. See I am physically challenged and this woman started talking crazy like right through our meal and saying I should move in with her and that she would look after me when I needed it etc., etc. Well needless to say I was a little frightened to go ahead and meet another woman the next day but decided to go ahead anyway and give it a try as see was kind enough to send me a picture of herself and I was honestly intrigeted. Now the start of the day was fine but I did leave my place a little earlier than was necessary so I arrived at this coffee shop about an hour and a half early. I phoned this lady to let her know I was already there and she said she hadn't even showered or washed her hair yet so wouldn't be there until designated time. She had not seen a pic of me as I am not that computer savvy and could not load one on then, and still do not know how to in all honesty, so I told her that I was bald and would have a cane that could be how she could recognize me. Well I sat there patiently awaiting for her arrival I had a lot of crazy things going through my mind and prayed that she wasn't like the other woman I had met the day earlier. Finally the time came and she arrived and we recognized each other immediately. We had a nice cup of coffee and a donut and then decided to go out for a drive and picked up another coffee to go. (I should also point out that this woman is an artist and my age so I wore a tye dyed Rolling Stones concert shirt thinking that it may impress her. Little did I know that she was not a fan of the Stones and believed that they were overrated). But I am getting off track, sorry about that. Anyway we went out to my car and dam if the passenger door wouldn't open. First embarrassment for sure. But she was a good sport and said that she would climb across my console to get into the car, which she did. We then went to sit by the water and have a conversation. OK, here I have to be honest again and let you know that it was water but in fact was frozen water as this story took place in March in Northern Ontario, Canada. But the weather didn't bother either of us as we sat there discussing our interests, past relationships, kids and live in general. It actually felt like we had known each other for years and we discovered also that we had both been at the same concert on New Year's Eve in 1971. So after this we went and had some brunch were we continued to just chat and chat and chat. Then she asked if I would like to go and see her studio and gift store which I of course said I would love to do. We decided that since it was in her hometown that we would each take our own vehicles and then I could just leave from there. Well luckily she was watching in her rear view mirror as we were on the ramp leading onto the highway as I developed car problems and had to pull off onto the shoulder. She came back to my car and asked what the problem was, and as I'm basically illiterate when it comes to cars said I think my battery just dies as it has no juice and won't go. So she told me not to worry that she would run me to a local Canadian Tire Store where I could get a new battery. So off to buy a new battery we went. When we returned to my car it was discovered that I had no tools for which to change the battery. This lovely woman then called her teenage son and asked him to come and give me a hand in changing the battery and to bring some tools. We sat in her van and had more time to discover things about each other. About 45 minutes later her son and a couple of his friends showed up and attempted to change the battery. However they did not bring along the right sockets or whatever and said it was way to difficult to change anyway as it was in a hard spot to remove. Then he and his buddies left and her and I returned to the coffee shop where we had initially met. There we saw a policeman who was chatting it up with this lovely little blond and not paying any attention to us as we stood there freezing waiting for him to have a moment to give us some help. After what seemed like an eternity the blond left and he asked how he could help us. I informed him of the predicament that I was in and asked if he could give me the number of a tow truck that could come and help. The cop explained that it was Sunday and that the only guy in this small community that may come and help was a little ways away but he radioed into the station and got us the number. As I mentioned we were pretty cold and knew that it was going to take a while so we went back into the coffee shop and got some more coffee and while there I called the tow truck man on my cell phone. The man said that he would get to the car as soon as he could but would probably be a half hour or so. We got back into this ladies van and sat by the car once again awaiting the arrival of the tow truck driver. A while later he did attend and changed my battery. But he said that the battery was not the problem with my car that it was the alternator. I asked about returning to my hometown and he said that I should leave immediately and drive with lights, radio etc. off as they would just drain my battery quicker. I apologized for the day to this lady and she ever so thoughtfully said "no problem and call me when you get home to let me know that you got there safely". Well off I went on my merry way and she hers. I was almost halfway home when the same thing happened again and so my car was once again dead. I parked it on a street in this little town hamlet of about 500 people and there was a store that was open right beside the town hall, where I had parked out front of. I went into the store and asked about getting a tow truck driver come and help me. The cashier laughed like I had two heads or something and said that there was a big hockey tournament happening and that all the tow truck drivers and the whole town basically would be there and it would probably be while before anyone could come to my rescue but he did call a tow truck spot and arranged for someone to come. So I bought myself a pop and bag of chips and sat in the car once again awaiting the arrival of a tow truck operator to come to my attention. While sitting on the side of the road a woman was backing out of her driveway and dam if she didn't back her car right into the rear end of my automobile. I was getting ready for the nuthouse at this stage. A while later the tow truck came and I asked if he could tow me to my hometown. At first he said that he couldn't because of some lame excuse. I offered him a little extra money and before you can say s**t my car was on the back end of the tow truck. He drove the car right into my laneway for me and I paid him and off on his merry way he left. It was getting pretty late at this point so I didn't want to call this woman at that time of night so I sat at my computer and composed for her a letter explaining my situation after after I had left her. Inside I knew that I must have looked like the biggest loser on the planet to this well spoken and educated lady and truly believed that it was a pleasure meeting her but that was it. Inside I thought that she was a bomb when I first laid eyes on her and knew immediately that we would hit it off but it was too bad that I had made such a disaster of our first initial meeting. Well the next day while I was at work I checked my e-mail and there was a response from this lady saying what a great time she has had and that her daughters and her felt bad for me as it had turned into quite an expensive date. She also said that her son had asked what was up with that guy and why did he walk like that. She told me that she explained the reason why I walked differently than them and felt very comfortable doing this. In the morning I had noticed that my cell phone was missing and so I asked her if it was in her van. She checked her van and it was not there. She then put on her investigator hat and retraced all the spots we had been and began calling to see if my phone was there. When she called the coffee shop they said that it was indeed there and had rang a couple of times so they shut it off. She drove an hour away and picked that phone up and had it sent to me via a courier. We continued to see one and other and soon became steady partners. We still live 2.5 hours away but talk with each other every night on the phone and spend each weekend together. I am proud to announce that this all happened approximately 3 years ago and that we are going to be married next May 20. She has explained to me that the reason that she wasn't put off by all these events was because I kept my cool through it all and did not start acting like a madman and/or cursing and swearing over something I had no control over. This is my first date disaster but I am happy to share it with the world and we often laugh about it to this day. Sorry for being so long winded.

I did this about 2 years ago, I was on a date with a guy and we were out to dinner and planning to go to a movie after, and the guy answered his cell phone 2 times over about an hour, and then finally on the 3rd time I excused myself and went to the bathroom. I walked out the door, got in a cab and went home. I figured he wasnt that into me, so I left. :)

I was in high-school at the time and driving him home after the movies. We had a bad accident - rear-ended really badly. I had to go to the hospital for whiplash and my mom had to come down to the accident scene and drive him home. $4000 damage done to my car. At least the date was memorable and we dated for 4 years after!
