I'm writing to Tesco about it, and I'm going to send them the pube... but I'm wondering if they will take it seriously, or even reply. It's definately not mine and it can't have come from anywhere else but the packet.

The fact that it's a pube makes me think that someone in the factory put it there deliberately and probably does it on the regular!

So should I report it somewhere else too? What can I do to make sure Tesco's take this seriously? Is there some kind of food ombudsman?!

Give the hair, the remnants of the salad and your receipt to your Environmental Health Department at your local council, they are the only people with a legal power to do anything about this.

They can get it tested by the public analyst to tell if it's human or animal and any treatments it's been subject to, like heating or washing. this will help them work out where it came from.

DO NOT GIVE THE HAIR TO TESCO! this will remove the evidence your Envoronmental Health Officers need to pursue the case. write to them and complain by all means but take photos of the hair to send with the letter. in my experience they don't give much of a toss though (excuse the pun!), as long as people keep shopping there.

well first of all if this is important to you
i wouldn't send back the pube

you will lose control of the basis of your complaint
if the company is dishonest
it will disappear

tesco is multi-national
you don't mention your country
[but i suspect britain]

my advice
if you want money
find a hungry lawyer [barrister]

if you want to be a good citizen
call the local heath department

if you want action
take pictures of the original package [with hair]
then put it in the fridge
make a protest sign
call the local tv and newspaper

stand outside the nearest tescos holding the protest sign
you'll get famous
[see you on cnn]

ps how do you know it's a pubic hair?

Notify the Health Department and also the product should have a number or address in the back. You should try contacting them also but it is very rare because mostly these products are packed on a sterile environment and everyone wears protective clothing. Unlikely but possible.

How can you be sure its a pubic hair? I would definitely write them and send it regardless, any kind of hair in food is gross, but they might be more likely to reply if you don't say its a pubic hair just because they will automatically think you are making it all up.

Go and report this to the Food Standards Agency (FSA) local Envrionmental Health as well as Tescos. You should get compensation for this...

Best thing to do for your own satisfaction is go back to the store where you bought it from and sprinkle a genorous handful of your own pubic hairs amongst the wet fish counter and write them a
letter explaining what you did and why. It might be benneficiary if you explained that you were diagnosed with crabs prior to you secret sprinkling. Dont write your address and leave it annonymous. You wont get any money back but think of the satisfaction later when you tell your mates down the pub!!

In the event it's a fruit they have seeds, otherwise it's a vegetable. And vegetables are usually grown in the ground while fruits are grown in trees.
