Don't buy her anything if possible yet don't be stingy...just don't buy her anything expensive and/or unnecessary and see what happens.

tell her that you lost your job and that you'll have to move in with your parents, but they won't let you so you have to move in with a friend or sister for a while, if she doesn't react strangely, then she loves you for real.
