This is one of the beautiful things. Did you know that Labs are the top shedding dog? I recommend a brush called the FURminator. Everyone who has a pet should own one. I have 3 labs. Trust me. you can buy the brush at Petsmart, Petco, or most pet stores.

Okay a few things, first of all Labs shed alot no matter what. Brushing will help, especially if you are consistant. Also you can try vitacoat or lipoderm which will make the coat healthier overall, like a strengthing conditioner. This goes on top of their food. There are some special foods but nothing that will make big dramatic jumps. I f the shedding is excessive and all the time you might want to watch what you feed your dog, many foods are not as good as they seem and they will contribute to massive shedding. Talk to your vet. Good luck.

I quite have a yellow and he sheds a great deal yet i understand that quite a few black Labs that shed in basic terms as plenty. I quite do no longer think of that's a assertion you're making that accepted. I labored with Labs of all colorings for years and that i understand the yellow hair shows up greater, love that's greater substantive via fact of colour. The black and chocolate blends in greater beneficial. yet i do no longer think of that the colour makes the version.

I would use a shedding rake (available at most pet supply stores) and brush the dog at least twice a week. Also, be sure that the dog is on a high quality dog food with Omega 3 and 6 fatty acids.

Also, do not shave your dog. It can actually make the shedding worse by causing severe damage to the coat, and you will have to use sunscreen on the dog to prevent sunburn.

Never shave a dog, they have fur for a reason. There is a low-shed food out, I think it's Science Diet...may be nutritional but I think labs just shed a lot...

The lady who grooms my Shih-Tzu has a big Yellow lab and shaves hers really short. It still has hair, but the hair is shorter. I also have a persian and when I get her cut short she sheds less. I know Labs aren't long hair, but it is a thought.

just be deligent about keeping the dog brushed. some groomers offer services such as the furminator that will help control shedding, but not stop it, for up to 3 months. but if you think your dog is loosing excessive hair have the dog checked out by your vet, it could be a medical problem such as thyroid.

You might try getting a comb with long teeth and brushing him a couple times a day. It should help it from shedding so much.

my dog does that, too. yellow lab. yup. it was a skin condition, but there is also early molting, due to unusually warm winter weather, as we have had in virginia.
