Does anyone have problems burning DVD's on computer then playing on DVD player?

I recently burned a DVD on my computer (a home video) but it would not play on my DVD player. I bought another DVD player because I thought the one I had was outdated. The new one did not play the burned DVD player either. I bought the correct type of DVD (+R).

First you need to buy 8X disks not 16X, even the new players don't like the 16X. Then make sure you finalize the disk.

There's your problem. You bought DVD+R. Most DVD players only support DVD-R.

Also, are you burning it as a DVD-Video or DVD-Data? You can't just burn an MPG or AVI file to a DVD and expect it to work in a DVD player. That's not the way it works. Your DVD needs to consist of ifo and vob files.

Also, what brand of DVD burner do you have? I have found that off-brand DVD players like IOMagic create burners that are slightly out of spec and create DVD's that don't work in all DVD players. If you have a Sony, Plextor, Pioneer, NEC DVD burner, then you should be safe.
