My cat always wakes up at about 6:00am and starts running around and meowing like crazy. I've tried getting up and feeding him or holding him for a while, but then if I go back to bed he just keeps on making noise. If I ignore him completely, he still continues to make noise. I can't let him outside because it's way too cold where we live. What can I do??I need to sleep!!

If he has everything he needs then you should ignore him. He'll learn that his annoying habit is not getting the attention he wants. I know it's not a quick answer and trust me it will take time but it is a complete fix.

Basically, your cat is bored. My mom's cat and dog do this same thing. They have slept enough (remember household animals sleep a TON during the day) and are ready for you to start the day with them.

Thank you for not letting your cat outside. If you have a basement, put him down there with food, water, and a litter box for the night. You could also do this in any large room. Some will recommend bathrooms, but this will seem like punishment to the cat--and he doesn't know what he is doing "wrong."

Another thing to do is show him a lot of love while he is sleeping during the day. It will wake him up, and he *may* sleep later in the morning. No guarantees, though!

Good luck!

Solution: ear plugs!

We had a calico cat once that did something similar around 6:30 or so in the morning. She would stay at the bottom of the stairs and moan. Loud and deep sometimes. Drove me nuts. There was nothing wrong with her and that was just the way she was. She past away a few years ago and our new calico is quiet as a mouse...except for the occassional moans. Is your cat a Siamese? They are known for meowing and moaning a lot.

LOL my kitties do the same thing. I have 2 and come 5:30 am they decide they are hungry and meow meow they go until I am up and half asleep over their food bowl.Sometimes I think they are just like babies how they wake you up for their morning feeding. An believe me if they are up everyone who is sleeping sound must be awake as well or they will be offended. LOL

When my cats wake me up and I still need to sleep, I just go, "pssstttt." That usually makes them quit whatever it is they are doing. At the odd times that a simple "pssst" doesn't work, I take my trusty can of air deodorizer and spray up in the air... it has a more convincing "psssstt." Then the cats settle down until I wake up. They wait patiently for their breakfast which comes after I had a couple of sips of coffee. I have NEVER hit my cats.

just try following it to what it wants, i have an old cat who can't see very good and he needs me to turn lights on for him. there may ba a door closed that in needs opened, there could be someting strange in the house, like a mouse. it may want outside and as soon as you open the door it will run back inside then do it again 10 minutes later (cat's can be dumb). if it's a playiful cat getting it some sort of dangling toy that it can play with may tire it out.

Ours gets up at the crack of dawn too. If you get your kitty a buddy he will have something to do. Hopefully, he's neutered and not going crazy bc he wants to go out and get some action. Get him tons of toys and activities. Ping pong in the tub or a box, a kitty condo, scratching posts - whatever it takes. Another cat will often help make him feel less lonely.

He's bored and wants to play! Is he still a kitten? It's very common in younger cats, but even older cats sometimes get the zoomies and want to play with someone.

You can try leaving out some toys for him, but the only surefire solution I have seen is to get another cat so they can play with each other.

My cat wakes me up early but she is used to being fed at 6am. When she was a kitten she want to play. If you have regular schedule during the week and another one for the weekend there is your problem. They get into a routine and do not like to deviate.

This is a cats normal schedule, there nocturnal, more active at night. Try putting it in a room with the doors shut and plenty of toys to keep it occupied
