Some States have what is known as Nuisance Wildlife Control Personnel.
These are individuals trained in dealing with most wildlife problems.
These individuals are referred by the state wildlife department and their officers.
One catch This person is paid by you not the state and prices very.
In my States it is forbidden to transport and release Nuisance Wildlife.
With the exclusion of those that are listed as protected or endangered.
The way this state see it why take your problem and dump it on some one else.
Old timers would used a club to protect the pelt. But I advise against this one.
But I cant help but wonder how many old timers got chew up like an ear of corn.
I say safety first ,shoot it with a 22 short behind the ear. 22 long rifle will work other wise.
If you are asking because you are with in city limits where the discharge of a fire arm is illegal.
Do you or a friend or relative have a hunting bow 40 lb draw or above that too will work.
If by chance you’re a miner under 18 years of age, talk to a parent or guardian before you make your next move.
Pound for pound a Coyote is willing and able to tear you up.
My advise Do Not try to Club, strangle, Stab or cut it’s throat.
And who ever said take it to the woods and turn it louse, get them to show you how.
Especially if you used a steel leg hold trap or a jump trap.
In that case that coyote is going to have a really good grouch going on.
Your average pellet gun of 177 or 22 cal will only up set it.
Believe it or not there are pellet guns out there that are up to 50cal.
Legal in some states for deer hunting,
They even have taking them to Africa to hunt various antelope species.
The price of this style of pellet gun is HIGH.
In your situation personal safety first, then Humane.
That coyote will not be concerned with treating you humanely if you get with in it’s reach.

That you're having second thoughts about killing a trapped coyote means you should just release him. Like someone else suggested, you've solved your problem. Take him to the other end of the county and release him. Use a rifle rather than a trap next time. Head shots to coyotes are as humane as possible. I know they look like dogs but coyotes are not Man's best friend. They don't domestic well and they are wiley, sly and will harm other smaller pets, lifestock, chickens, etc.
Good luck.

The following methods to kill trapped animals are recommended at a United States trapper's training course:
1. Break the neck of the animal by putting a stick over it, stand on it and then heave the body high up.
2. Stun or choke it. Beat it on the head with a shovel right where the head meets the neck. After this, stand on the neck while resting your weight in the place where the heart is: this especially works well with foxes.
3. Cudgel it. This is the commonest killing-method. The animal gets several blows on the head with a hammer, shovel or any convenient tool.
4. Drowning is recommended for muskrat, beaver, raccoon and also for skunk.
5. A .22 riffle can be use for most animals, except for the muskrat(...).

Put a razor sharp broad head tight behind the front shoulder, shot from a 260-300 fps. bow,I prefer a Mathews Switchback, & Carbon Express arrows tipped with NAP Razorback broadheads. Might sound like I'm plugging sponsors but I'm not! A double lung & or heart shot is always a quick & painless way to kill any critter.

well one thing for sure Mr coyote is going to be in a bad mood and if you get real close he will try to eat you up . I have grown up with BB guns and pellet guns and to do the humane thing how about a quick and fast kill a 22 in the head but If you try a knife get a camcorder because I don't think anyone would believe you would do this.

I think you mean humanely. The most humane way I can think of to kill a coyote is to shoot it, but you don't want to use a gun. I guess you could shoot it with an arrow, but you would need to have good shot placement. Smack it on the head with a hammer. My brother used to work with a guy that killed a mangy coyote by doing that.

seem on the dogs for severe bite marks. praise the dogs for doing a good pastime. call up animal administration and ask for the coyote to be examined for rabies in case you're fairly worried. Wait, is this an same 10 week old St Bernard puppy you suggested on your different question? also, the position is your 10 week old lab? It grew to grow to be into an finished grown GSD?

Depends on what you mean- is it a leg-hold trap? Than a .22 or a large, blunt object to the noodle. If it's a Have-A-Heart trap, lay a large tarp behind your vehicle, place the trap on the tarp and wrap it "Christmas gift style", then with a hose and rag, pipe the exhaust into the wrapped "gift". The carbon monoxide will kill it humanely

There is only one humane way to kill a Coyote in a trap, thats to shoot him in the head with at least a .22 cal, any other way would be unhumane.
