I watch a lot of HGTV and yesterday I happened to see an episode where they were using a black stain on wood. It is around you just gotta track it down. Home Depot or Lowes would be good places to go.

first you want to go to home depot or something like that and look at the wood stains and see if you can find a black one i believe that you can. Second while you are there look for a stripper the one you want is Orange and thick and it smells like oranges. and then you go from there but mack sure that you do all this out side so you don't get sick form all the fumes. the tools you will kneed are a paint scraper and a paint roller and paint brushes.

Its too bad you did,'t get good customer service. But I agree is staining with a walnut color, but there are other factors to take into consideration. Do you want water-based or oil-based? What type for finish are you looking for Satin, gloss or semi gloss? Do you know what you need to prep your wood? Since you do not have a person you can go to at your hardware store, I would go to www.minwax.com . The website will help you in what steps you need to follow in order to get the look you want for your table.

There was a show a few years ago called the Furniture Guys and they used ammonia to turn oak a pretty dark grey--almost black. You use a technique called "fuming" where you seal the item and the ammonia in a plastic bag (or whatever) and let it sit for a few days. See link below or google "ammonia oak fuming".

Good Luck!
