The best mantra is one that a self-realized practitioner of yoga has intensely practiced in his own spiritual journey. That mantra becomes imbibed with tremendous power, in fact it becomes completely one with the practitioner which means it will impart to the one who uses that mantra all of the power of the one who gives it. This is how a true self realized yogi explains it: Just merely repeating the mantra will not do anything for you; you must repeat it with the absolute conviction that the mantra is one and the same as the guru who gave it to you, the creator of the Universe and your own true self (the God within you)that you are seeking to attain. Only then will you come to realize the power of the mantra. Such a guru will not have dozens of mantras to hand out, but solely the ones he used. If you are a sincere seeker and are ready for the teacher he will manifest and you will get precisely the mantra that will take you to your desired goal. Om Namah Shivaya. Guru Om.

L Strunk: --- ahhhh... But of course! I fully agree with you, however, that prayer does not an ounce of good lest the person praying has a humbled heart, hence my suggestion for the above verse in Chronicles. There are so many good verses on which to take a stance in today's age. Let us stand then on the ENTIRE WORD OF GOD! :)
