Acts 2
38Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. 39For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the LORD our God shall call.

Mark 10:14
...Suffer the little children to come unto me, and forbid them not: for of such is the kingdom of God.

I should have included more verses.

The "Age of Accountability" is not mentioned in the bible except in the following verse:
Psalm 51:5 Behold, I was shapen in iniquity; and in sin did my mother conceive me.

Infant Baptism indirectly credited in the New Testament, for no typical religious household of the time would have been without small children or infants:
Acts 16:15 And when she was baptized, and her household, she besought us, saying, If ye have judged me to be faithful to the Lord, come into my house, and abide there. And she constrained us.

Baptism is simply an act by which one's faith is witnessed to. It is by those who perform and receive them that the teaching of Christ is expected.

Matt 28
19Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: 20Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen

I think infant baptism evolved as a way to soften the prevailing Christian dogma, namely that people go to limbo if they die before being baptized. That can be pretty hard on a parent. I do not think this is relevant. People go where ever God wants them to go when they die.

However, as a ritual it has purpose, even infant baptism. The purpose is related to strengthening the spiritual life of the family. If a child or adult is baptized they can make a willing decision or commitment at that time or just survive the experience if you are shy. The older the child/adult is the larger impact on the subject being baptized may be.

When people mix "the practice of religion" with "belief", I don't mean faith, then these issues can be raised the very important theological issues and lose all practical meaning. It is reasonable to assume Peter was talking to adults and that he meant commitment to Christ.

The Biblical pattern is that a person always gets baptized FOLLOWING his or her conversion experience (see Acts 16:29-34 for one of many examples). Moreover, household baptisms such as the one described in Acts 16:33 do not specify the presence of any infants. Having said that, it is certainly permissible and right for young children who have trusted in Christ to get baptized.

Those two verses are taken completely out of context.
The first is saying that Salvation is promised for future generations. The first thing it says is repent and the it says be baptized. A baby can't repent because it has not concept of sin.

The second verse is saying don't prevent them from coming to Jesus. Can kids come to Jesus? Yes. The age of understanding for them is different for each kid. My neices and nephews are great examples of this. One asked Christ into their life at 5. The other at five, didn't comprehend a lot of what was going on.

We can dedicate our children to the Lord as infants, which basically means that we say that we are going to raise them up teaching them about Jesus, but it doesn't save them, and neither does baptism.

at a similar time as i'm not a Catholic, yet a Protestant, i could say that toddler baptism has been a conflict for my faith besides. that's what i be responsive to. between protestants, generally the Presbyterian church believes in toddler baptism. To them that's a demonstration of the hot covenant. The have faith that faith is largely shares via families and toddler baptism is merely going forward, equivalent to circumcision being the sign of Abrahamic covenant. even although, many different denominations purely settle for the believer baptism sighting biblical examples of purely people who've often used Christ being baptized. there is no direct occasion of toddler baptism interior the hot testomony. merely approximately each denomination does carry out a baby dedication the place the baby is committed/consecrated unto the Lord and teaching/encouraging mum and dad to boost the baby up in His techniques. additionally, evangelical Presbyterians could particularly agree which you purely get baptized as quickly as. while you're baptized as an toddler then your coming to faith in Christ is God friendly a promise of the early covenant.

Baptism is for the REMISSION of sins.

Acts 2:38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

Acts 19:4 Then said Paul, John verily baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people, that they should believe on him which should come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus.

Can you please tell me how an infant commits sin that they must REPENT of?

For those that say because of Adam sins, please explain this one then.

Deut 24:16 The fathers shall not be put to death for the children, neither shall the children be put to death for the fathers: every man shall be put to death for his own sin.

2 Kings 14:6 But the children of the murderers he slew not: according unto that which is written in the book of the law of Moses, wherein the LORD commanded, saying, The fathers shall not be put to death for the children, nor the children be put to death for the fathers; but every man shall be put to adeath for his own sin.

2 Chronicles 25:4 But he slew not their children, but did as it is written in the law in the book of Moses, where the LORD commanded, saying, The fathers shall not die for the children, neither shall the children die for the fathers, but every man shall die for his own sin.

LDS don't believe in it until the age of accountability which they use age 8 years old.

Because baptism is to be a choice of the individual, infants are not able to make the choice. Suffer the little children was an admonition to not prohibit little children, not to try and force them into it. If I say to repent and be baptized, obviously I am only speaking to those who can both hear and understand me.

Personally, I don't think it's a rejection but rather a choice to allow the infant to grown and choose their own following. If taught well, they will be lead to believe and do what is humanly right by nature. This cannot be 'promised' by the pure act of baptism alone at infantcy.

Many Christian branches don't baptize infants because they don't believe a child is accountable for their sins till they reach the age of accountability which differs among different branches. Some believe 8 is that age , others believe it's 12

Because as the bible says "Repent and be baptized....". An infant or small child is unable to repent, therefor it is not to be done until the child is old enough to repent and understand Gods word.
