Son aged 5. Having Blood drawn. He hates needles & Doctors.

How can i make it,less stressful for him ? He freaks with needles.

Can he sit in my lap ? Then i can comfort him,&hold him still !!

What's easiest way - to hold him still ?

Distraction is key. Emla cream (a numbing cream) can be used to numb the injection site also. Ask for it. Blood draws are never fun on kids, the best advice I have is to comfort him when it is over, and reassure him the pain will be short-term. The quicker the better. That's all unfortunately.

Associate blood being drawn with good things.
Like if he holds still tell him you will take him to the mall and buy him a toy. (or whatever he likes)

Or you can hold him, or maybe even get it done with him.

yes you should do that, and make him look you in the eyes the whole time and dont let him know when the needle is coming. Works for my five year old.

tell him he will die without getting the blood drawn, or if he cries.

bring a toy or a story you can read to him and then do it quick
