Reply for u - first off, no need to be so snotty about parade/graduation thing.
Secondly, I have posted this on behalf of my sister (who doesnt have her own pc but asked me to ask the question) therefore, I am not 100% sure of terms etc etc.

Hope this clears things up for u :-)

Im guessing your American but i know what a passing out parade is. Its a passing out parade for all you who are not sure and its what we british name the event when a trainee soldier completes basic or in the case of infantrymen phase 2 training. I went to my brothere on the 1st of december last year and it was a smart but casual, jeans, t-shirt, jacket for the lads and the women something casual, smart but comfy as your there fora while whilst they march around alot.

Just make sure you dont look like some wierdo goth skater or surfer type thing. No offence to any but in the UK they look like freaks with no lives, except the surfers cos there are none.

Anyway just dress as if you where going for a drink with some mates, not to fancy or you will stick out like a sore thumb.

Your not American so good. The pass out will be at Catterick Garrison i expect as it the only army training place in the UK.
It will either be on Vimy Barracks drill square or Helles Barrack drill square if hes a Guardsman. It last about 2/3 hours and involves a lot of nothing ( 45 minutes for the inspection when you see no movement ) the they march round 4 times. Twice slow marching twice fast. Awards for best recruit are handed out and a few speeches. After this you go to the Naffi for drinks and a chat whilst the soldiers go get a debreif. They then join up with you for an hour before getting changed and removing there belongings and you all gohome. Thats the basic run through. No body dressed imaculetly because in the end its the soldiers on display not the audience.

PS they charge ypou 22.50 for a home made dvd which is a bit of a rip off but a good watch.make sure your sister gets one

I am joining the army soon, and I was told that people who are to see you leaving the training boot camp, that they should wear smart, yet casual attire, for example a button up plain white shirt and some black pants, wth the shirt tucked in, and a plain kind of tie, for men, and a smart casual blouse and a nice skirt, or a smart dress, for women, you must wear enclosed shoes, no sandles or stilletos, but they should still be smart, as you may get a picture taken with your boy friend and dont want to look bad, theres no limit on what you can wear, but it MUST be smart casual.

Hope this helps.

Toby.

Congratulations to him for making it through, do you know where he will be posted. And if he will be posted in Australia.

I am sure that for security reasons you are not allowed to give the location of where the army will be based or where they have their passing out parades.

Just get the answer to your sister's question and leave it at that. The questions asked of you are irrelevant and are far away from the question you asked.

In march it is cold in the uk.. she needs two outfits. a suit for the ceremony and a black evening dress (not too skimpy or sparkly) for the celebration. - problem solved.

Hi I went to my sons passing out parade, and it is smart wear skirt suits, trouser suits. He only does this once so get dressed up and enjoy it. I had a great time. But be early to get a good seat.

you use the term "passing out" so i guess youre in the uk so i wouldnt go overboard cos he will hardly see you till afterwards.it takes alot of concentration to complete the parade and the participants barely notice anyone other than their troop(sorry).just be there at the end just being you cos thats all he will want to see(as well as his mum but wont admit to that bit)

Wear a nice suit with a plain blouse. High heels and bag to match shoes.

Definately a navy colored dress. It depends on the part of the country, if it outdoors it may be cold in March so keep that in mind when pickng out the dress.

Enjoy!

what the heck is Passing Out parade? first response was for you to wear nothing ... but your description makes it sound like an official event, so I would suggest a nice suit with matching shoes & hat,
