And I'm going with him. The problem is that I can't do any of those old-fashioned dances, and he's an expert. I'd hate to embarrass him in front of all his friends and enemies. Any advice?

Well, lildevilgurl152004, it starts out with a waltz, turns into a flamenco, and finishes (oddly enough), with an Irish dance called River Stomp. My boyfriend knows all of these.

Next week!!?!?!?! You have tones of time for you two to get together on a couple evenings and he can be nice and show you a step or two. MAKE SURE and tell him not to push you, you just need to know a couple steps, and to recognize the simple signals like a spin, etc. Just get together with him and do it and practice!!! I'm sure it will be awsome for the relationship, make sure and add in a few laughs and you can't do wrong!

Make sure that there will be "old fashioned" dances at the dance - they don't happen that often at many school dances. If there will be, why not ask him for lessons? That way, you'll be able to see how he moves, and you guys will then look great together.

If you can't or don't want to, ask someone older for help - maybe even your dad or other male family member? That way, you won't get too embarrassed.

And if worse comes to worst, see if you can schedule a private lesson with someone who teaches it professionally - or go out and buy a video to teach you.

The key is to relax, and since you're a girl, you've got it a bit easier - the guy is supposed to lead you after all! :)

Can you practice with him? I think there are videos you can get from the library to help you. You could also ask your folks, uncle, neighbours if they can teach you a few steps.

Good luck.
