Why do I see so many supposedly Christian posters going on about how awful Islam is? I'm not a big fan of Islam, but it doesn't sound worse than Christianity.

For instance, some Christian will complain that Muhammad killed a lot of people - well, so did your God, so did Moses, Joshua, Saul, David, and pretty much every other king in the Bible!

A few days back, there were about a dozen Christians posting in every thread that Muhammad was a bad person for having a 9 year old wife. Well, how old do you think Mary was? Most scholars believe she was 12 when she had Jesus, if she existed at all. And did God even ASK this 12 year old if she wanted to go through a pregnancy? No, he just told her after the fact. So how is Muhammad bad for having a 9 year old wife, when your God had a 12 year old incubator?

I've yet to hear a criticism against it that can't be leveled against Christianity. Since it's the Christians that complain the most about Islam, I'm just confused as to why?

Ten points to Gryffindor, Affan, as I was wondering the same thing.

And Natty, dear, maybe YOU need to reread the Bible. The angel simply says "You WILL give birth" not "If it's alright with you, could you do us a favor?"

Finn, yesterday a Christian told me that witches and homosexuals should still be put to death. Don't be so certain that your religion has evolved and another religion (which I suspect you know little about!) hasn't.

None religious is wrong or right, they're just ways to explain life and make people believe that "there's something more" in life. Otherwise humans were just like any other animal. Both, Muhammad and Jesus were humans like anyone else, therefore they were not perfect. The truth is really in what you believe and no one can't ever make you feel less for believing or not. Discrimination between Christian and Muslim is unacceptable. Particularly, I believe that Christians see Muslim as a problem because they are gaining more and more adepts everyday. In fact Islam is the fastest growing religion, even in America.

The thing is ...Muslims should understand the Islamic history, the Qur'an and the biography of Prophet Muhammad (pbuh)--non-Muslims take alot out of context, for example the marriage at a young age...

In spite of its somewhat arrogant Western talk of "primitive cultures", An Overview of the World's Religions makes it clear that puberty is an age old symbol of adulthood:

"Almost all primitive cultures pay attention to puberty and marriage rituals, although there is a general tendency to pay more attention to the puberty rites of males than of females. Because puberty and marriage symbolize the fact that children are acquiring adult roles, most primitive cultures consider the rituals surrounding these events very important. Puberty rituals are often accompanied with ceremonial circumcision or some other operation on the male genitals. Female circumcision is less common, although it occurs in several cultures. Female puberty rites are more often related to the commencement of the menstrual cycle in young girls."

All killing, fighting, war and even administration of law and order involve some type of violence. However, the wild, wild West did not earn the United States a reputation for violence; the two World Wars- the most violent and the worst killings in human history- did not earn the West in general and Europe in particular a reputation for violence either. The virtual decimation of the Indian people in the United States did not make the country barbaric or uncivilized. The European colonization that ravaged, exploited and dehumanized various parts of Asia and Africa, including the Muslim world, did not make Europe any less civilized. The Spanish Inquisition and the Crusade did not make Christianity violent and barbaric. Even the recent, organized torching of Muslims in India by a Hindu mob does not make Hinduism a burning example of violence and barbarism. Yet, these days there are people who would like to identify Islam and the Prophet Muhammad as violent or symbol of violence.

WOW! Have you ever studied the Bible at all? You are fundamentally wrong on just about everything you just said. The Angel of GOD did speak to Mary before the immaculate conception & Mary said, "behold the handmaid of the Lord; be it unto me according to thy word". She did know, and as for how old she was, she was already engaged to be maried so she was old enogh, at least in those times. How many 9 yr olds do you know of in todays society that are maried or having consentual sex... none! in our society Mohamed would have been in jail for being a pedifiler. Are you comparing GOD to Muhamed? GOD sent his only begotten son to become a man and die on a cross to pay for our sins and iniquitys so that we may have eternal life. How many people has HE saved is a better question. What exactly did Mohamed do?

To get the facts straight, Muhammad fell in love with a six year old and consummated his marriage when she was nine. There is a big difference in the maturity levels of a six, nine and twelve year old girl.

No one knows how old Virgin Mary was when she became inseminated. Some reports have her as old as sixteen. But she was also a virgin. God chose a young girl as to be little doubt as to how she became inseminated.

As for Muslims respecting Christians, why did they force them to pay a special tax in order to keep their religion, why did they convert the holiest church in Christendom , Agia Sophia in Constantinople (presently Instanbul in Turkey) into a Mosque, why do they execute people who convert into Christianity? Is that respect?

The biggest beef we have with Islam is that it still lives in the 12th Century. Sure, we've all done bad things. Christianity has a better forgive and forget clause in it that allow for a progressive nature that somehow never made it in Islam.
All of the other major religions got it and moved on; Judaism; Buddhism etc; even Hinduism with it's caste system has adapted. I believe that if Islam does not change it will either collapse on itself or the rest of the world will eventually turn on it because it is so backward.

Muslims and Christians have far more in common than not. This is why it is unfortunate that Christians today, and throughout history, have gone out of their way to tear apart the life and teachings of Islam's greatest prophet.

As a Christian, my life is dedicated to doing God's will. For a Muslim, it is no different.

I think you should educate yourself before posting such remarks.

First.. if you doubt God even exists - why should you care.
Second... God did ask Mary via an angel in Luke 1 and she agreed.
Third... Muhammed was a man who was a sinner like all other men God created except for Jesus; Jesus was God in the flesh.

Affan... I'm not making any comments about Aisha. I don't support the Quran. The Holy Bible tells us not to add to or take away from it; therefore, me supporting an additional supplement (book) would take away from the very foundation of my beliefs.

Elesia... in Luke 1:38 after Mary is told about what is to happen, she agrees:
38"I am the Lord's servant," Mary answered. "May it be to me as you have said." Then the angel left her.

Then verses 46-56 can be refered to as Mary's song as she's excited about what she has agreed to and what's going to happen.

Islam is the truth. They are afraid because they have deviated from the straight path. The christian tribes and jewish tribes were on the straight path, but not in these modern times where they have become religions of their own.

Long live Islam.
