She is 7 years old and chews the erasers off (and eats them) and chews on the metal.

Firstly DONT PUNISH your child with a smack, its not wrong to chew a pencil end off its just annoying, dip it in a bit of tobasco sauce to give her a mild distaste persistance & love will prevail, its just like people who bite thier nails off!

Start sticking vegetables on the end of the pencil... maybe she's hungry! (grin)
What about using the product nail biters/chewers put on their fingers? Wouldn't that work?
I would make up a believable story of how bad erasers are to the human body... (something like the watermelon seed stories we used to get).
Good luck with this one...
Sounds more like a nervousness or anxiety behaviour... maybe just simply ask her why or when she does it and go from there.
