I had such pain 10 years ago that I cured myself after 2 years. Now I am completely cured, but I always keep it warm, always wearing pants, sometimes special knee support, only in order to keep it warm, not only in winter, but also in summer when entering air conditionned cold malls. I never wear shorts in summer, avoiding to expose it to the cold air. I only wear Capri-s.
All these precautions, b/c I was told the pain and inflammation can recur. But it's been 8 years that it never recurred yet.

what I did, I put some compresses of transparent oil, called aircraft oil, for 10 to 20 mins, as it burns the skin if it is left more in contact with the skin. I put these compresses every time I had pain in my knee, for one time, and everytime the pain was over. I repeated this procedure for two years, at about a recurrence of once every three month.
You should pay attention not to jump on, or overuse that knee, for about 1-2 years.
Other people usually go for operations.

Maybe you injured your menisci. You could have a tear. Did you do something athletic to incur the pain? I use this website to find medical information. Maybe you can find some help here.

IT CAN MEAN THAT THE FLUID IN THE JOINT IS LOW AND THE GRINDING CAN CAUSE THE SAC TO BECOME INFLAMMED (SYNOVIAL FLUID) WHICH ALLOWS FOR FREE MOVEMENT BETWEEN THE TWO ADJOINING BONES! MAKE SURE YOUR WATER AND FLUID INTAKE IS SIGNIFICANT!
