Wow, would you adopt me? Lucky kid!
Seriously, I would do several things, choose what you like:
Invest in his distant future with a savings bond or a CD or the like.
Give him a gift that he can unwrap, something personal, clothes, shoes, take him shopping, and have him pick out a choice of things, if he is picky, then sneak back and buy him something out of what he picked.
Give him some small useful gifts, like a gift card for an oil change, pizza gift cards, Blockbuster gift cards, car detailing certificate..
Give him a reciept for money put in his college fund, make that generous as you can afford, thousands$ if you can. And then decide how much cash you will give. Take into consideration how many grad parties he is invited to, and how many gifts he will have to buy, make sure it is enough for him and his buddies, or his GF to do some celebrating on. $250 bucks just to fritter away would be enough to cover grad expenses, and a few gifts and parties. And don't forget that the grandparents and relatives might be sending money, too.
I got a trip to Hawaii and a very modest amount of spending money, plus the very small amounts of money the relatives sent for my HS graduation. Maybe that bit of info would help you decide.
PS, my parents were not wealthy, just a federal worker and a nurse. Good luck!

Whatever is suitable for your income. I'd say a minimum of $100, since nowadays this is about making more of an investment beyond. If they are lining up to go to college, perhaps gather gift cards from places they could really use in their new surroundings (dormitory, apartment, etc..) at places like Home Depot, Bed, Bath and Beyond, Walmart, Costco, etc... I think those are better than cash itself, then you have more control of them using the money in a better way. If they aren't going to college - you still may want to continue with that thought, perhaps they'll grab a clue that they need to be thinking about being on their own. Sounds harsh, but kids today are way too spoiled, they need to learn to stand on their own more.

Give a gift, any ammount will do but make the sure the gift is VERY nice and if its cash do NOT attach rules to the cash gift. Such as:" use the money for your tuition for college."
I got a gift like that and it really steamed me up!

I suppose it depends on where you are at financially and what his plans are for post graduation. If he is going to college he may need funds to purchase special things he needs for a dorm room. If he plans to work it may be different. I would say the range would be 100 to maybe a 1000 depending on the needs.

Well, it really depends on what his friends are getting for graduation. You should try to talk to moms you know and find out what is suitable for the area you live in. Basically it comes down to this.... no kid wants to be the one on the block that got shafted.

What ever YOU can afford. you can not base your giving on someone else. They may be more able to give $50.000 or $100.000 you may be strained giving that much. I say give what is comfortable for you.If it's $100.00 . Just be proud. and let it be from the heart. He might not want Money but help in another area.

Looks like he is a child who has everything. Let's hope he's as good at giving as receiving. The question is at what amount will he feel he's being shortchanged.

You have given this child everything... Why not NOT give him cash for graduation. Instead, get him something that can be used in college... Get him a new laptop or something along those lines.
