Neither, it is part of Oceania....

The region of Oceania includes Polynesia, Melanesia, Micronesia, New Guinea, and New Zealand, and when it is used as the name of a continent it also includes Australia.

Our true Classification is Oceania We are part of the Pacific Rim. There are those who use the term Asian because of our proximity to some Asian countries But we are not truly Asian we are multicultural. Most residents in the early years were Europeans and Brits. We have Italians French germans Dutch Chinese Malaysians Indonesians Philipinos, Arabs Iranians Iraquis, Turks Russians, you name it we have it and are proud of it It gives us a varied identity and wonderful restuarants and festivals that are many ande varied. So come and pay us a visit and be amazed at what we have to offer

Geographically it is in the Pacific region but economically and politically it is moving towards Asia as most of its exports are to Asian countries.

With the development of the EC many of of Australia's traditional European markets were closed off as barriers to trade were raised in an attempt to keep non member countries out of that market.

Australia since then has sought and negotiated many free trade agreements with Asian countries

Asia is by far Australia's major trading area.

Australia's future is most definitely tied to the growth of Asia as they continue to develop trade agreements with countries in that area.

Generally considered to be part of the Asia-Pacific region.

We have cultural ties to Western Europe and Economic ties to Asia and military ties to the USA.

Go figure.
