Depending on how old you are there may be something that will help very much.Contact a Dermatologist and ask about treatments. If you have a mild case he may advise a cream or ointment.Be careful if he perscribes a steroid because it will cause thinning of the skin. Results will vary with these creams so don't expect to see improvements over night. Two of the creams I have used were Temovate .05% and Cutivate .06%.These are kind of expensive unless you buy generic. Both of these work really well but if you have alot of spots its a pain applying it every morning and night.About a year ago I started using Embrel 50 milligram shots and this stuff is great. You give yourself an injection once a week and in about 2 to 3 months you can't tell you ever had any break out at all.You can't afford to use this unless you have insurance because its very expensive.Talk to your Derm and see if he will request it for you.He will have to contact your insurance provider and get authorization to perscribe it to you.Something that will help you get authorized is if he will suggest to the insurance company that this will help prevent possible skin cancer. As I said before this is the wonder drug for psoriasis and it will make all the difference in the world.
If you would like to know more email me at the address listed under my screen name.I will be happy to talk to you about it.

Psoriasis is a disease that takes place when the body’s immune system mistakenly believes healthy skin cells to be enemy cells and starts to produce many more new cells to replace these cells. This is the reason why there is no cure for psoriasis and medications applied to treat psoriasis are only able to remove the symptoms temporarily. Don't go the "cream route", it's only just a waste of time and money. Been there Done that!

You need to read "Psoriasis Free For Life" by Katy Wilson if you want to cure your psoriasis for good. Available online also @ http://www.psoriasisforeverfree.com It's a book that shows you how to cure psoriasis naturally in a few days. I cured my psoriasis permanently in 6 days after reading this book. Good luck!

I was diagnosed with psoriasis at age 14 and now I am 36 years old. You can say that I have tried just about every medicine both approved by FDA and trial without much success. Examples include Enbrel, Humira, oral meds, creams, oils, salts, coal tar, etc and the list is much more extensive that I can't even remember all of the names. But recently after someone shared this video https://tr.im/TreatmentPsoriasisWXHd everything has changed. My psoriasis completely cleared by putting these changes in place. I only wish I'd taken photos of before and after because it truly has been miraculous. I am getting married in Oct, 2015 and I am wearing a strapless gown that also shows my back and I am confident (not like before) that my skin will be soft and pretty vs red and flakey.

Dear H's Mama:

You can contact the National Psoriasis Foundation which has loads of information, support groups, forums, Q & A, and a variety of treatment modalities.

There also is a new product that is helpful in the phototherapy used to treat psoriasis. It is called Heliocare and is a UV protection supplement. Heliocare has been clinically shown at Harvard to increase the efficacy of the psoriasis treatment phototherapy used by the treating dermatologist [e.g. PUVA; UVB NarrowBand; etc] - - - i.e. the patient "clears" faster - - - and also to reduce the sometimes severe or toxic effects on the patient of the UV over-exposure.

Heliocare, which costs $1.00/day and is available in most national chain drugstores [at the Pharmacy Counter] and many dermatologists offices [ask for it], is a valuable adjunct in the treatment of psoriasis.

Good luck! With persistence, you can clear and maintain clearance of your psoriasis.

Please contact the NPA and please consider adding heliocare to your daily regimen.

How Supplements Can Help
Taken daily, the supplements listed below may relieve psoriasis flare-ups. They may be used together. Results are usually apparent after about one month.

1.Omega-3 fatty acids, found in fish oil, are anti-inflammatories that work by blocking arachidonic acid, a natural body chemical that causes inflammation. People with psoriasis often have low levels of omega-3 fatty acids in their system. Take fish oil three times a day or flaxseed oil in the morning.

2.Grape seed extract is an antioxidant that blocks damage to many types of cells, including skin cells. Borage oil also has antioxidant benefits that help protect skin cells.

3..Zinc speeds healing when taken daily. People taking zinc for longer than a month should also take copper, because zinc prevents the efficient absorption of copper.

4.Milk thistle can be very useful for improving normal liver function, which is often beneficial for people with psoriasis. This herb also reduces leukotriene production in the white blood cells, which in turns helps slow the overactive reproductive cycle of psoriatic skin. Some nutritionally oriented physicians suggest combining milk thistle with the amino acid NAC (N-acetylcysteine), which has been shown to protect the liver during exposure to certain toxic chemicals.

5.Individualized homeopathic medicines prescribed by a health-care provider skilled in their use may be an effective way to decrease the severity of psoriasis flare-ups.

6.Cayenne pepper cream (capsaicin) is used by both conventional and alternative practitioners. Applied directly to lesions, it causes the body to block production of the inflammation-causing chemicals found within the psoriatic plaques. Because capsaicin can be highly irritating, it should probably be used only under a dermatologist’s supervision.

Self-Care Remedies
Expose psoriatic areas to the sun. Between 15 and 30 minutes of sun on the skin each day may help heal psoriasis. Results begin to show after three to six weeks. Protect areas that don't have psoriasis against sunburn by using a strong sunscreen.

Try to minimize your exposure to chemicals in the home, including pesticides, solvents, oil-based paints and cleaning solutions.

Drink plenty of pure water. And try to avoid chlorine in water; be sure to shower after swimming in a chlorinated pool.

In winter, turn on the humidifier. Moist air may prevent lesions.

Use a moisturizer on lesions--and the rest of the body as well--to prevent dryness and itching. Aloe vera gel works well for many people.

Take a bath containing oatmeal, coal tar, or oils you find soothing. Keeping your skin well hydrated is a very important part of the treatment of psoriasis. A 15-minute soak in warm water is recommended.

Try an application of fumaric acid cream. It’s sold in health food stores, and it relieves pain and itching and reduces the size of psoriasis lesions. Apply three times daily during acute attacks.

Include fatty fish in your diet often. Among those that contain protective and healing oils are mackerel, sardines, tuna, salmon, and herring. For those who don't like fish, fish oil capsules sold in the health food store are an alternative.
