I was born here, does that mean I earned the right to be an American? Very few citizens earned the right to be an American, we just got lucky.

As has been said, its not "right" but when it comes down to it it becomes a choice that just needs to be taken at times. All these people complaining about immigrants sapping up resources dont realize the BILLIONS of dollars a year that are reaped by the government because of the illegals that pay taxes but can recieve none of the benefits, much less a refund check. Also, many wish to be legal but the immigration system we have is a mess and to become legal takes not only years sometimes but thousands in dollars of fees alone.

Because our dear president is planning on giving amnesty to 12 million illegals. His followers just jump in a rather mindless way on the bandwagon. It is high time that President Bush would listen to the voice of the people instead of his corrupt buddies who own large companies. They neither have the right or have earned the right to be called Americans. Further more, they don't even want to be Americans for the most part. They refuse to learn the English language like other immigrants of the past. They wave Mexican flags while collecting food stamps, section 8 housing, WIC and free educations for their anchor babies. Why didn't they protest for rights in their own country? Why didn't they fight to make their country and government good? The Americans have struggled through the years to do this(civil rights) why should theirs come without struggle? Every society must pay their dues in order to bring about change for the good!Let them deal with their own corrupt government! Let them look to Americas example of how her people shaped their own country instead of running elswhere! I am tired of footing the bill for these people! My school taxes have tripled and they say my taxes are expected to go up even more. When will America be for it's own citizens? When Bush leaves office and we have enough sense to vote in a person who represents the voice of the people! That's when! If you are illegal, the last thing you should get for free in this country is a bus ride home via military escort! Let those that have something to contribute come in the tradition of our forefathers with great awe and admiration for this wonderful country!

I came to this country legally from Peru. When I decided to become an American, I wanted all the came with it, the language, the culture, the dreams. I am proud to be an AMERICAN. Unfortunately those that are here illegally, don't want to be an American, they don't want to learn the language, they don't care for the laws. Our country did not come cheap, many died to have what we have. Yes they have to earn it and appreciated all that we stand for and all that we are, they need learn our language, our culture, and make our country a better America instead of trying to make int another Mexico and most of all RESPECT OUR LAWS!

It's called dealing with the reality of the situation. There are 12-20 million illegal immigrants, most of whom aren't going anywhere. We can either let them stay in the legal shadows, where we don't know who they are, or we can give them a legal path to apply for legal status. That's the only way we're ever going to find out who and where they are.

No.
All you have to do is be born here. That's how it works.
I don't think that people should break the law, but I think the reason they do is because the legal immigration process is VERY badly broken.
I seem to be in the minority, but somebody who WANTS to be here, works hard, and gives our country more than they take I have no problem with.

I agree with you. To be called an American and to truly be an American is a great honor. Some people who claim to be American don't grasp this.

The United states has this big problem..Illegals..We cant even take care of our own people let alone millions who are sneaking accross the border and expecting us to pay for their needs.. Did you know that sick and pregnant women sneak accross knowing our hospitals will pay for their care? Our Goverment has a fund set aside for this..You have to go through a legal procedure to become a citizen. ..We have become a soft nation of idiots, who let other countries run all over us.We are too busy taking care of everyone else outside of our country..We have enough of our own problems.

Sorry, you are no one to decide who 'earns' the right to be called an 'American'.
I do not support illegal immigration, I do, however, support a fair immigration reform.

It's wrong!! It's a health hazard. Even being legal does not give someone the right to be called an American. There are procedures for that too.
