MACROs as they relate to computing is a very general concept ... a macro is a series of user inputs strung together and often bound to a key on your keyboard ...

for example, you can make (record) a macro in excel to copy what's highlighted, delete the cell and move it to another worksheet by pressing CNTL-SHFT-F5 or whatever you assign it to ... macros are used when a complex series of tasks is needed frequently and can be simplified with a macro script ... macros are generally not considered appropriate for newbies and amateurs.

Macros are small programs to do a particular tasks. Examples are macros in Microsoft excel. You can write some macros in excel to perform some type of function or tasks.
