depression at 5yrs old??
he could be sad that his dad isnt around, but not "depression".
why not spend time with your son, doing special times with him.
dont talk about his dad to him, find something that your son likes. and spend time doing that.
its his dad's loss for not being in his son's life. my daughter is 16yr and never had a relationship with her father, he never asked for visitation, i told her when she was little it was his loss for not knowing her, but has better male "father figures" in her life that love her, like her uncle and grandfather(my father and brother).

dont bother contacting ex. or his family--its their loss. enjoy your son while he is young, and give him your love anyways. and do things with him, and that will keep him happy. he is most likely just very sad, not depressed.

Make him earn his son back. Too many guys take their children for granted along with the care of raising them and the loss that a child feels from the seperation. If thats truelly the type of father he's going to be, do you want him in your childs life.
You son deserves not only a father but a true father and your ex does seem to fit the bill.

If your ex calls again, do not let him speak to your son. You need to protect your son against this happening again. Does he pay child support? If not, see if you can get it from him; there are offices in every county to deal with this. If he has to pay, this increases the chances that he will want to be involved with this boy. If he does show up, PLEASE do not let your son go anyplace with him. He is not a good risk at this point.

keep stalling until one day the father calls. look for him, get the police, get the fbi to do an investigation. Find that father. no child derserves no father.
