Holy Blood and the Holy Grail is an interesting, and thought-provoking book - clearly much can not be proved (and the authors admit that), but a credible idea overall.
Dan Brown is one of the most over-rated writers publishing today. He made very good use of the research done by many other people to write yet another tedious, tedious book to show off how well-read he is.

"The Da Vinci Code" was a work of FICTION which based a lot of its creative ideas on the non-fiction research of "Holy Blood, Holy Grail."
I read HBHG (no easy task, it's a thick book). The authors make it very clear in every single chapter that they do NOT necessarily believe this theory, or that the theory is proven. They merely explain the some interesting facts they uncovered, and present a possibly explanation for how these facts could reasonably be linked and explained. It is NOT "church-bashing" or attack on faith, Christianity, or anything else. It merely offers an unusual theory.
Nevertheless, the supporting arguments are very logical, reasonable, and persuasive. While there is currently no way to prove this "holy blood" theory, there is really no way to DISprove it, either, and it makes as much sense as any explanation offered by the Bible or the Christian church. So really, it's up to you what you want to believe.
"The DaVinci Code" is highly entertaining, but it is really just the Cliff's Notes version of HBHG. I would strongly recommend reading HBHG before you discount this theory.

Da Vinci Code is a work of fiction based on the theories in Holy Blood Holy grail, theories that scholars have had for many years. Without a time machine we cannot prove or disprove these theories, but they make interesting reading.

I have not read "Holy Blood and the Holy Grail."
I have both read and seen "The Da Vinci Code." It is okay as fiction. But most of it's background "facts" are completely fiction.
The Da Vinci Code is filled with lies and half truths about Christianity, the Catholic Church, and even Leonardo Da Vinci.
Many people are taking this fictional book and movie as fact and are using some of its very strange theories to attack Christianity and the Catholic Church.
Do a quick search in Yahoo Answers and you will see some of these attacks.
To find some of the lies and half truths, do a quick search of the Internet or see: http://www.jesusdecoded.com

Both a load of crap. I enjoyed reading the Da Vinci code, but Holy Blood Holy Grail is the only book that I ever threw away before I finished reading it. And that's coming from a Christian who once read the Satanic Bible, just to see what all the fuss was about.

One is a book of theories, most of it pure speculation! Very boring!
The other is a thriller. It uses the theories of the first and some other works as a reason for why Hero and Heroine are chased from Paris to London. As a thriller I loved it!
I think Dan Brown must be laughing all the way to the bank as the saying goes. Every time someone makes yet another program proving how false it is the sales of the book go up! Bet he got a tidy sum selling the film rights too!

Da Vici Code is a good exciting novel..... novel, new ,made up.
The Blood and the grail are only symbols of what happened to The Christ in his last days. The wine reminds He died for us, The Chalice is the prize each devout Christian recieves when he takes the communion wine. It is all symbolic. Nothing else. No transubstiaion, no hidden grail at Glastonbury. Just a reminder of a Holy Man who died for sinners and became one with God and the Holy Spirit

I haven't read the Da Vinci code, but I think Henry Lincoln makes some very interesting, and persuasive points. I think it's entirely possible. I also think it makes the story of Jesus' life all the more beautiful. I like to see that human element in Jesus. it's more realistic, and also very poignant and touching.

da vinci code most beleivable. im a roman catholic and reading that book made me wonder, quite scary to think that the one thing in the world you've been brought up to beleive in could come crashing down around you, even though book is 50% fiction, its so clever because it isnt that far fetched and it isnt an impossibility.in fact ,dare i admit it,i think its more plausible than the actual story of 'christ our lord,'especially when you do look at the painting of 'the last supper', i loved that book, truly amazing and educational.

DVC draws on other books for its theme, apart from some relevant material, most of it is childish, poorly written nonsense. HBaHG is better, where, aside from the Priory of Sion fiasco, there is much valid research . Much of the Bible research holds water, and some very interesting insights into religious interpretation are worth investigating. HBaHG is the better of the two, although both should NOT be considered as pure research material.
