Talk about your wierd comparisons! I'd say that you're best bet would be based on what you intend the use the vehicle for.
The Infiniti QX56 is the fullsize Sport Utility Vehicle based off of the Nissan Armada, a vehicle that ranked near the bottom in reliability based on the 2006 Consumer Reports Automotive issue. It shares its engine with the Nissan, as well as most other major mechanical components, so I've got no reason to doubt that the reliability would be any different. Also, the vehicle gets horrible gas mileage, is no good off-road compared with similar vehicles like the Land Rover Range Rover and Lincoln Navigator, and the interior is reported to be of a quality not nearly good enough for an SUV of this status. I'd say only consider it if you must have an SUV that's an Infiniti. If you need a fullsize SUV, a much better choice would be the Lincoln Navigator. It's cheaper, more reliable, better off-road, and has one of the classiest interiors in the luxury SUV world.
The Lexus GS 430, unlike what you stated, isn't a coupe, but is a sleek sedan (sedans have four full-sized doors, coupes only have two, with maybe a suicide half-door behind the main door like the Mazda RX-8). It's a performance sedan, notched just below the Audi RS6, BMW M5, and Mercedes-Benz E55 AMG. The reliability is outstanding, scoring at the top of the luxury car class according to Consumer Reports. Also, it features an excellent interior, sound handling, good gas mileage, and one of the quietest interiors in any car, luxury or not.
I'd say, for the money, the Lexus GS 430 is your better bet in this scenario. Perhaps, if you were interested in a Lexus luxury coupe, you were either thinking of the old SC 400 or the new, folding hardtop SC 430, so I'll mention those too.
The SC 400 is a performance-oriented coupe, built from 1991-2000, based off the Toyota Soarer. It was very sporty, on par with luxury coupes like the BMW 635CSI, Mercedes-Benz CL500 and Lincoln Mark VIII. Excellent reliability, great looks; I highly recommend it if you can afford it and don't mind buying used.
The SC 430 is the replacement for the SC 400, still based off of the Toyota Soarer, and is more a luxury coupe than a performance one. It's much heavier than the SC 400, has a larger engine (4.3 Litres versus 4 Litres), slower, doesn't handle as well. On the other hand, it's newer, has excellent reliability, and comes with the weathertight folding hardtop, similar to those on the Mercedes-Benz SL-Class and SLK-Class. I'd say avoid it unless you want a Lexus convertible. Even then, a Mercedes-Benz CLK-Class (if you don't mind a power softop) or SLK-Class (if you don't mind the odd styling) might be a better buy (cheaper too).
If you need any more information, please feel free to ask.

Lexus GS430!!! Its not a coupe...its a nice looking sedan with a great ride. You also have an option for a hybrid also.
I've read reports that said the QX56 isnt all that reliable, the brakes is kind of "soft" for a big car and its not really good off-road.

How da hell hate shopping for new cars? That should be one of the best days of your life.
I used to own a Lexus GS and it was just an OK car, not great. Absolutely dreadful in the rain due to its RWD. But very roomy even for a sedan.

Lexus GS series is the runaway best by far!
If you want solid build, almost no noise (except for your heartbeat or breathing),get the Lexus GS 430.
Better quality and exceptional resale value with the Lexus. Also Lexus dealers and service cannot be beat!
