Help! my cat ran away yesterday night and I can't find her anywhere! She's a house cat and never goes outside! And we just moved to a completely different area than before! Plus it's snowing outside! I'm so afraid she'd freeze to death! I've checked all around the house and asked the neighbors too! What should I do???

She's not declawed but she's not very bright, even for a cat...

I hope it's not a white cat. If it is put some food outside and maybe he/she will come back. If not try driving around the neibor hood callin him. (cats don't usually answer calls). If he/she isn't nutered it will go to look for some action. My dog did.

If you didn't move too far from your old place, she may have returned to the old house (can you call a former neighbor to keep and eye out for her?). Cats will sometimes return to the place they consider to be "home"--not the new place. You should also contact the local vets, animal shelters, SPCA (whatever other animal control services you have) to see if they recently picked up a cat fitting your description (and continue to call them since they will not contact you and many of them have very limited holding policies). Also find a good representational picture of her, create a "wanted" poster for her with any distinguishing marks, contact number, etc. and blanket the old and new neighborhoods, nail them to light posts, etc. The wider area your "ad" covers the more chance of someone recognizing her and returning her to you. But, be aware there are often psycho people who will respond to your ad saying horrible things like they killed your cat, etc., or asking real personal questions about you, or asking for a reward or they won't return her, etc.--usually these folks have absolutely no connection to your cat, they just saw your contact info and are useless enough to not have anything better to do then harrass you (don't let them get to you, be wise, rely on your intuition). If anyone says they have your cat, make any exchange arrangements so a (BIG) adult friend can accompany you, in a very public place--just to protect yourself. If the person really does have your cat, they won't mind.

One of my indoor cats did the same thing. I haven't seen her since New Years Day. I put a listing in at the Humane Society. You can try getting a trap from your local shelter/humane society, call the shelter everyday, hang up flyer's, run an add in the local paper, TALK to your neighbors, leave no stone unturned. I understand how you feel...You always have a sick feeling wondering where they are. :(

As for freezing, it's not really likely. I have several ferals around my house that I take care of and they are outdoors 24/7. I've never had one freeze do death. She is an animal, and no matter how 'unsmart' she seems, she still has all those senses that an outdoor kitty has.

Sending good vibes your way. Good luck!

Cats are very resilient animals, and very resourceful . Chances are,she will find a warm place to curl up,and hopefully come home when she's hungry. It's pretty unusual for a cat to freeze to death or starve, they are very independent. You didn't say if she was declawed,if thats the case,it would be hard for her to hunt, but fortunately, cats are also GREAT beggars.

Is she fixed? My indoor cat always ran away every time she went into heat, then she would come back when she was finished with her boyfriends. The last time, she was kind enough to bring back a bellyful of kittens. Keep food outside for her. They normally come back to the hands that feed them.

Keep walking around outside and calling.
Put a dirty shirt of yours in the front and the back near the doors if you're really new to the area so she can smell you. She's prob. hiding and too scared to come out.

Put a strong smelling food like a can of sardines outside the door she went out. You'll have to keep calling and looking for her. She must be terrified.

ok, this happened to me a few years back, stay calm and keep food out. Remember that cats where origanally wild and are used to cold envirments. Just wait and look out youre windows, A LOT!!! Heat up canned food and put it outside EVERY NIGHT! I really hope this helps!!! : D

Not an awful lot you can do. Have you tried checking back to where you moved from? Perhaps she is headed that way. You can leave some food out side, and hopefully, she will come home to you. I am sorry to hear of your plight.

Have an old neighbor check around your old house, it's not only dogs that have homing instincts. Chances are you'll find her there if you still haven't seen or heard from her at your new residence.
