A good way to do it is to pin up your hair by sections, then start at the bottom/back and work your way to the top layers.. Since you have thin hair I recommend that you put hairspray before each curl and get thin chuncks of hair at a time.

Look into a mirror and have someone hold another mirror behind you so that you can see what you're doing. If you have 2 mirrors on the opposite walls in your room or a mirror in your washroom with cabinets with hinges on the sides, that would work great. So first, clip your hair from the top of your head up, leaving only the hair on the bottom of your hair, curl that and keep on doing it in layers. To make loose curls, use a bigger curler and wrap your hair in big spirals around the curler. If you want really curly Italian type curls, wrap your more tightly together. It'll take only about 10-15 minutes. People who tend to do it more carefully can take 20-30 minutes.

After the curling iron heats up it will probably take 7-12 minutes but it really depends on how u do it and the exact length and thickness of your hair.

You can probably start curling it in a few weeks.
