I just got two new cats on DEC 26. both from different litters, house holds also. One is about a year and the other isn't even one yr. Sometimes they will groom eachother but then they start whopping eachother and hissing and biting.I have no idea how to settle this TRUELY.I sometimes can stop it for about an hour or so.

Rub them both down with catnip. Seriously, as long as they arent' killing each other, they will learn to get along. We united two households (i have 2, they have 1), everyone gets along famously now. Be patient, let them play, just not get too rough.

they are both young and eventually they will settle down... they accept one another already since they groom each other... but expect a phase of hissing and posturing as the two cats will try to establish who is "boss." Once that is settled, things will calm down. In the meantime, just intervene when yo think someone could get seriously hurt (very rare).

The same thing happened to me with my 2 cats. I had the boy for about 2 months, then along came the girl. Jeez, I didn't think they would ever get along. The boy was attacking her every chance he got and she was absloutely terrified of him! I really didn't think it would work out. We sepatated them while they ate and were only really together when someone was there to watch them. But after a while (to be honest it was about 3 months!!!) they got used to each other and now 4 years later, they just love each other so much! They are inseparable and are so happy together. So keep at it. You are doing the right thing. I know it will feel like forever but soon they will be fine. They just have to get used to one another...

I always say this :
Lets say you had to stay in a place with 1 or 2 strangers, and you HAD to get along.......It would take time...right?
They are both finding out who is the '' boss' or alpha cat.
Take time to interact with each cat, show them that they are equal to you.
If you are worried when they are alone, just seprate them when you arnt home. In time they will come around..and be best freinds.
Good luck !

Are they both fixed? That can solve a lot of inter-cat problems. Sounds like they are still going through their "adjustment" period. Sometimes it can take more than a month.

well it depends on their sex. If its 2 boys then they will never stop fighting. But if it is a girl and a boy or two girls then they will stop. But most likely their just playing aggresively.
