I've heard that Plasma HDTVs are not being manufactured by Sony and other electronic manufacturers. If this is true, would I be better off investing in a large-screen LCD instead of wasting my money on a Plasma?

What you hear is not necessary true. The fact is that most electronic manufacturers are concentrated on LCDs because of the competition. Only 2 major manufacturers : Panasonic and Pioneer are invested heavily in Plasma technology and research, and the result showed that. Plasma are made by other manufacturers too but they don't put much money into the technology because LCD is more popular due to the smaller screen sizes. For tv with a screen size of 37" or less, you will be better off with LCD. Any tv with a 37" or larger screen, Plasma is the better choice here.

I would hardly say "wasting." Plasma screens have very good dark levels but on the flip side an lcd may have more brightness/contrast especially in a well-lit room. Burn-in isn't a problem with newer plasmas.

"Better picture" is subjective to person to person. You really need to go into a store and objectively gauge how you view a "good picture." Ask to play with the color/contrasts settings since most Best Buy employees usually like to jack the settings way up to make things look pretty.

You can get a bigger television that's cheaper in an LCD and plasma has a better picture and there are a lot of good companies that put out plasma. Sony isn't necessarily the best. There's samsung and panasonic...etc.

Yes Sony don't made they own Plasma panel, but they do the manufactured by adding extreme graphic processor and put good beznet and packing. I'm sure other brand do the same because it's a high risk investment for build a plasma panel factory. The one that makes their own plasma panel is like Panasonic, pioneer, Hitachi.

LCD has better picture than plasma but LCD doesnt stay for long while plasma does and it has more guarantee. Plasma runs by the dots and it surely does have good picture too.

I've heard that LCD is the way to go - up to about 43". Larger than that, go plasma. Just a thought.

From what i know Plasma comes out more expensive in the end. Every five years you have refill the plasma gas which is pretty expensive.

plasma has a shelf life, after so many hours the screen fades away. best sugestion is to try a lcd liquid crystal display or a dlp digital lasar projection.
